Occasionally, when working with a chart, I find that the bottom(or the top) is 'capped off' and MT4 does not allow me to scroll down(or up) as far as I want.
"No problem", I hear you say. "Simply adjust the fixed minimum/maximum in properties and away you go".
That's fine, but how do I prevent MT4 from subsequently withdrawing the newly extended chart parameters when I next start to move the chart around again? An annoying shout-at-the-screen type of problem.

You can't, but you can move your cursor to the price area (right edge of the chart), then hold the left mouse button down and drag up or down to change the range of prices shown on the chart.

Any idea why MT4 seems to pick certain levels as the default extremes which it will allow charts to scroll up or down to?

The high-low range mt4 uses depends on the number of bars that will fit in the chart window (horizontally).
