In my first year of trading FX, I came up with an idea to blindly pick a pair and go long or short based on a coin toss..........I was serious. My advice to you my friend is to continue to study the market. It's hard work. You have to have an inordinate amount of patience to trade the markets....99% of folks aren't born with it.

Me too, I was on my final chance final account before I was going to quit, I couldn't afford it any more. I'd tried it my way which hadn't worked so I decided to try a more conventional approach. Turned out I didn't have a clue what I was doing when I started, but it looked so simple at the time!

I've heard other traders say the same, a few blown accounts before making it, maybe it's a phase some people have to go through.

Doubt it. I'd bet most conveniently forget that period of their life, or tell their friends that the markets are a casino. And who has blown 5 or 6 accounts? Learning to trade an appropriate size is one of the easier lessons to learn, and should be hammered home within 1 or 2 accounts (excluding meltdowns).

In an ideal world, sure.

(Forex) trading is such a tease, it looks so damned simple and people persevere because they feel they're so close to the rainbow, this time they'll make it!

For all I know, the claims of blown accounts were for fractions of overall capital, and by people within salaries ready to reload the account. Blowing an account is only as significant as how much of trading capital it represents. I could blow many accounts too if I underfunded them.

Most small "traders" (using that term loosely) are underfunded whether the amount is separated into multiple accounts or not.

Does anyone else here consider going long for the Aussie on Monday? I am actually looking now at the forecast of the Australian Home Loans, and the indicator may probably increase, which I think may cause possible gains for the AUD…

Hi,

I don't know how far you considered your plan, but there is something very flawed in the "sell at the same time" plan.

Imagine that you were actually able to manage to have enough people to sell EUR/USD at the same time, and push the market from.. let say from 1.3100 to 1.3070.

Moving the market like that actually means that the first one to sell would be selling at around 1.3100 and the latest would have their orders filled around 1.3070.
Putting it another way, only the first ones would be in profit after that move.

Also, after everyone have a sell position opened, what happen?

- Do you actually close all of your position at the same time? That would send the market up again bringing the same issue: only the first ones to close their position would do it at 1.3070, the others will be closing at higher prices.

- Or do you wait and close your position whenever you feel doing it? Meaning that only the first ones to sell would be able to lock garanteed to profits (that is, IF the market were to move).

So, if you goal is only to move the market, that could do it (even thought you will need far more than a few people with micro/mini accounts to do it).
But if your goal is to make profit from it, you will need to plan what happens next. Because the current plan would only benefit those selling JUST BEFORE "let's move the market" time.

I was just trying to think out of the box and I wrote at the beginning it was crazy idea, so I knew the most probably it was not possible to do. But you ignored those words and all I heard was how stupid and ignorant I am...

Ok, maybe I am... my mistake was I did not check for similar threads before I posted mine...

Just like you I trade conventional way, I am using trendlines and S/R, no indicators. These are my results for the last 3 months and it is live Alpari UK account. Still learning...

... and I don't care what you think about me and if you believe me or not.

By the way if we were supposed to be impressed by the 3 month equity curve graph you posted it doesn't actually mean very much without other information, I can show you a similar graph for a trader who made some excellent profits for several months but then blew up. It means diddly!

Majority of posters here have so many different opinions, so it would be impossible to get 1000 to 2000 traders to agree on a trade. Better for you if you want to do this type of strategy is to trade FXCM's Sentiment report (SSI), but in opposite direction of their recommendation, which would, in effect, be following the crowd. I haven't done exhaustive study of it, but of the numerous SSI reports I've read, trading contrarian to the crowd would have resulted in more losses. This leads me to believe that the reason that majority of traders lose is not because of not trading the right direction, but due to other factors, such as exiting too soon, trade management, etc.
