Hi fellow traders, this is one of my 3 losing trades, the overall trend is down on daily, initially fom the 5 min up to 1 hr it was a melody of uptrend so i waited till GMT 1645, 25/6, and shorted the candle, its a up bar that closes on the lower half of the candle, same for the previous 5min candle, so i shorted it, as higher time frames were also singing the same melody, but it went up instead, any insights? This was my 3rd trade n i was trading as usual, half suspecting if im entering for revenge which is not a gd trait of trading psychology...sigh...
I think the trade was never based on VSA method.

But is simply a failed counter trade. cause you did not see any back ground.

Somebody invites you over for dinner, you show up and it's a full 5 course meal, you sit down and before you get ready to eat the cook says that will be $10 please. Wouldn't you be upset, I would. Not at the cost of the meal but the fact that you didn't tell me I had to pay, even though i know you had to put a lot of work into it. I'm using a micro account and i would have to close it out to pay for the software even if it is cheaper than TG. Just my thoughts

In the software world there is a free lunch for some. It's called a beta test or review copy.

A lot of people here were given copies to test or help critique or compare to other software platforms. I am sorry you were not selected as one of them.

Hi Gents...

VSA is great, however I have been finding some difficulty differentiating between distribution and re-accumulation (or Accumulation and Redistribution).

For example, yesterdays GU chart on m5 and m15 showed distribution in the shaded area (at least I thought some indications of weakness).
Only to realise that it was actually re-accumulation and the market continued on up..

How can I clearly distinguish if the up-trend is going to continue or is it actually signs of supply coming in (and if a downtrend going to continue or is accumulation settling in)?

Would really appreciate some insight.

have been watching the thread for quite some time, and i am sad to see things going this way. i learned a lot of things from other seniors, and i used (and still using) volume indicators posted here.
just some brief comments -

i don't understand what everybody has against shamus et co... they worked hard (presumably) to code and test a system that proved to be very profitable. if any of you pointing fingers at them would put some work into something, i doubt you'd like it to see it gone without any profit on your side. so until you are willing to work for free, stop pointing fingers and move on.

i don't know what this system is doing, but it can't possibly do better than a skilled trader. if you study, you will succeed with or without any software. but if you are a lazy a$$, then you will most likely fail... with or without any software.

in the end... i just wanted to congratulate shamus and the others for the hard work - only you know how much you worked at it and its true value - and leave with this saying: no good deed goes unpunished. EVER.

You know what? I thought about it and I bought it. It'll save me the $180 or whatever I'm spending a month on the eSignal plugin and save me the hassle of switching over to esignal for any confirmation of my VSA suspicions (I'm still a newbie where VSA is concerned). Shamus spent a lot of time coding so I don't see the issue with charging for it. I've already paid $360 for the Tradeguider eSignal plugin for 2 months and it doesn't even have any scanners and is quite limited when compared to the SMART software. It seems to be more comparable to the Tradeguider RT program and much more reasonably priced. Add that to the fact that MT4 is my platform of choice... and my choice was easy. I'll let you guys know how it works whenever my order gets delivered.

I must admit that I never intended to use SMART.

I did get the impression that it was going to be free and Shamus was providing a tool out of the goodness of his own heart. And maybe as a snub to TradeGuider.

What bothers me most is that the BEST FREE resource for learning and exploring VSA is now "hidden" in the commercial section of this site. Many traders will lose because of this.

Trading is the last true bastion of capitalism. To trade you have to be a
capitalist. As such, you should really bare no ill will that Shamus is trying to profit off his toil. Go ahead Shamus get yours. But there is a bigger loss to remember: community.

You have to look if there is stopping volume, shake-out, selling climax (rare), efforts to go down with no results. First you see this on the longest timeframe, then you see it on shorter timeframes and time the entry (when there's a test, falling pressure or prices go into recent lows with low volume) on short timeframes. I'm a newbie though, but this is what I'm doing and it's what I learned from the book.

Tom Williams considers both. First he says it's narrow spreads then later in the book he says it's very high spreads too. They both work anyway, you can exit right in the top usually.

Btw, you mentioned the large time frame 1st, im actually doing the smallter time frames up till daily, then go back to 5min to time my entry, im doing so because in a todd Krueger article, he mentioned the importance of time frames and gave an example of how the smaller TF leads the larger ones, and checking on them to form a 'melody'

so if small to large signals weakness, i will go back to small to time my entry.

Yup, just sharing my perspective, we can cont to share n encourage one another, trader's journey is certainly not easy, persevere! Please correct me if im wrong.

Yeah I hope pros give some advice, I don't wanna be talking here like I know everything when I'm a still a newbie .

Hmm, if for example a shorter TF gives buy signals I sure wouldn't buy if the longest TF was signaling distribution. Shorter TFs lead the larger ones of course, like tick prices lead 1 min bars and so on, but if the longer TF isn't showing any strenght the move won't go very far I guess. I first see the longest TF, so I can choose the very best situations, and this is what usually one does using technical analysis.

To be able to buy something for $350 that would have taken me thousands of dollars and probably thousands of hours of work to develop is an incredible bargain.

Now ForexFactory's editorial rules may have been bent a little by turning this noncommercial thread into a commercial one, but keeping FF's integrity is FF's job and they do a good job of it and this thread isn't threatening the site's quality at all. I really doubt this whole (long, informative, educational) thread was part of a cynical attempt to exploit FF's audience to launch a new product. I think the fact that this thread helped lead to an affordable product available to the public is a good thing for FF and its users not a bad thing.

So thanks for the great thread, Shamus, and for producing SMART. I hope you sell a bunch of copies.

Agreed. It paid for itself today... the first day I've used it.

EDIT: I should add that I"m not a strict VSA trader by any means, but rather I use it to identify areas of strength or weakness when nearing potential reversal areas I've determined (chart patterns). It certainly did it's job today with some sloppy movement I might add.

I am very interested. I had a bunch of queries:


- If there is or in future going to be a trial for this?
- Is there any other pre-requisite in using SMART? like some other feed for which i have to pay monthly
- What is the recommented MT4 broker?
- Is there a past performance that we can have look at?
- Are the future update/enhancements going to be free or is it going to cost additionally?

These are not just that i am looking at. I am sure anyone interested in this software would be looking forward to.
