Great find, this was way better than wall street warriors.

"I fucked a Playmate, isn't that every guys dream?" LMAO. It's hilarious they had to put sub titles on the guy.
Ignored
Even though they really didn't have to add in the subtitles. I think our perception of him would be slightly different, perhaps, without the subtitles, haha.

Greg Riba

"I told you. It was just like you know what? I could beat these guys."
"And I swear to God that 99% still don’t get it, when you win you start betting less. Bet more!"
"The only thing about trading is, just don’t lose money. When you lose money it changes everything."
"Make money every day."

Wise words

Mr Riba has given us traders "pearls". Take what he says to heart, go out and apply it. The quote that hit me the hardest was:

"And I swear to God that 99% still don’t get it, when you win you start betting less. Bet more!"
- Greg Riba

This is excellent...

I watched this and you can see people made money, but most of these people are old skool... put them behind a PC to trade with all the instruments they want... and they are not very successful.

When the people worked in the pits, they had the edge, they no longer have this edge.

seriously..what the fuck. nobody has said anything about this movie. I know it hasn't been fully released yet, but you can view the preview of the episodes here. I definitely will purchase it once it's released on June 15th.

I find the characters amusing....

This film shatters the notion that seasoned pit traders have a large advantage over the rest of the trading world as we know it today. I'm sure there are some aspects that they do have the upper hand in such as a firm grasp on market mechanics and so fourth, but the pit does not transfer over to the screen. If anything, this film should give all of us screen based guys some confidence.

I agree with you a little here... but these people provided volume and liquidity in the market, some knew what they were doing, some didn't, some were good, some were ok, some were bad, some had education, some didn't.

I call it 'Mates Rates' - it's who you know and it's what you know that keeps you there (I've questioned the 2nd part of this and most of the time, it's who you know!)

But since everything is computerised, this splits and best from everything else and even the best are not making the money there were before, but a great insight... I wish there was a little more to it.

Most definitely. I've recently befriended a couple guys who used to trade in the pits and they say the same thing. There really is no advantage other than your mind and adaptability.
I dream, therefore I become.

Couple of those floor trades should read the book "Who Moved My Cheese".

I've spent many hours with Dr J and Pete and Linda Raschke. It was great to see them add authentication to this film. For those of us not in the business, the topic could have seemed like too much "inside baseball". It really is "Rocky" in reverse. These are street guys, some of whom made enormous fortunes, only to have the source of their fortune-making taken away from them by computer trading.

A book from an earlier era, "Pit Bull", by Martin Schwartz, ( http://tinyurl.com/PitBullTrader ) tells the same story from a trader's perspective. Marty almost died of a heart attack and quickly left the business for the warmer climes of Palm Beach.

saw the premier in London yesterday and it was great! Looking forward to the DVD. I had been to the pits in Chicago and you can really feel the energy which you cannot on the computer screens. May be for that we need all those indicators these days.

Absolutely Scotty.

I've just watched the series for the first time, and to see highly successful pit traders unable to transition their success to online trading was an eye opener. That aspect was especially highlighted from episode 6 on.

Just like Professional Typists, Coal Miners and Milkmen ...they all had their day. The world moves on.

Most of them probably area bunch of wankers, apart from the 2 who absolutely shone out from the pack (Greg Riba and the guy with the stuffed Giraffe !). The few seconds of wisdom those two guys imparted is priceless.

I just googled and found that there was an official site at babelgum.com, where you can watch all (preview?) of the episodes. I haven't seen the whole thing yet, so don't know if those are sections of the full film

A world that's more riot than profession, the trading floors of Chicago are a place where gambling your family's mortgage is all in a day's work. Floored offers a unique window to this lesser-known world of finance. These men may not have degrees, but they've got guts, and penchant for excess that solicits simultaneous feelings of revulsion and admiration. But like many aspects of our economy, technology is changing the way these traders do business, and these eccentric pit denizens aren't the type to take kindly to new tricks. Check www.babelgum.com/floored for more info.
