I think he finally gotten over that bitterness in eps 7. If you look at the guy holding the palm pilot I think it was the same bitter guy in eps 6 haha.

that one dude wanting to be 'in the element' just seem like a wuss to me. Unlike the other guys..but i'm just judging :-P

The losers always hate the winners. I can only imagine that it would be a hell of a lot worse if you were once the king then turned into a surf too.

He has a negative attitude though. I can honestly tell you why half these guys failed, because it's the same as computer trading or any other business for that matter. That guy in episode six said that he can't trade anymore - wish come true brother..... Ribe and Walsh are the only ones that are probably still doing alright for themselves because they didn't bitch out when things started to change up.

That movie does show the 95% vs 5% statistic we've all come to expect.

I would say only 2 of the traders featured are doing fairly well. The rest bitched and moaned about their vises, the computer, or other traders. All that whining got them nowhere. Scared of change. What surprised me the most were the young bucks who seemed to have gained a lot of the guy's ways. One young trader talking about becoming a park ranger! Are you $hitting me? He looks around my age and he's having a problem learning to trade by computer?

Watched the show last night. Even though I have never been to a trading pit the gist of it seems pretty familiar. Like the guy who lost his whole stake and had to become a clerk for $400/week. All he had to do was cut his loss - but who has not made the same mistake? And the guy who thought he might like to be a Park Ranger - nice guy - this guy was on the edge of that cliff, the one you step off of when you decide that you are, after all and in fact, just a loser. Maybe he already fell. Well, that ledge is never very far away - you just have to learn to laugh at it, spit over the edge & say "fuck you, I ain't gonna fall."

And the old dudes (hey they're my age more or less) - they are everywhere, not just in trading. They can not adapt to changes in the industry they're in, whatever it is. They remind me of the hand drafters. In my business, we put together plans, drawings that show how your roads and power plants and wastewater treatment plants, etc need to be built. Up until about 1980 or so this was mostly done by hand. Then computer-aided drafting (CAD) came on & most of the old dudes hated it, couldn't/wouldn't learn it. There was a spirit in a drawing made by hand, an art, some of that work is just beautiful. The CAD programs all have font styles to emulate that hand quality, but its easy to spot a fake. But the CAD work is 10x faster. I used to hear those old dudes sobbing in their cubicles. First job I ever had somebody stuck me in front of a computer and said - here, design this project, we need it in about 6 weeks. Well in 4 weeks I was a CAD expert. But I didn't have some old way of doing things weighing me down...

All these guys were talking about how much they made or lose in terms of $$ but they never said what was the % of the account they lost or made, like the guy who lost big in the yen trade, it seems that he overleveraged that trade, they can say "some guys would make 40k in one day or lose 80k in one day" but doesn't say anything about the ROI.

Riba was by far the most interesting.... pity there was so little of him. The guy from episode 6 just pisses me off... complaining and incredibly bitter. And he said he had 16 years of profitability... just think of the people who work so hard at trying to figure this all out who get nothing but disappointment. Sometimes you just gotta be happy and say "good run".

That was my favorite guy. Looked like he did well for himself.

It was a very interesting watch and I have to agree that it is one of the better, wider scope trading watches I have seen. The move from pit trading to computerised setups would have been difficult for some. I look at my old man who struggles to turn on a computer and he is very intellectual but has lived a very tough life. I think there could have been more in depth interviews with the stories that showed the reality of trading in the pit, the downsides which are quite common but my guess would be that it is difficult to find people who are prepared to speak openly and honestly about how they got it all wrong.

Judging by the amounts that could be made it is easy to see that while I am sure capital preservation was important, it came second to being agressive with your money on a given day. That given day could be the point where you either buy that penthouse or your lying on your couch with your dog, divorced and now working that 9-5 job for 30k a year.

It is a eye opening film for those who are looking to get involved, the ones who want to make it big in such a short time. The film shows that it is possible but the downsides are the consequences you have to deal with later. The having to find your rent money, food money etc but if your ballsy enough and happen to be right then for "now" you dont have to think of rent money again, but I highlight "now" because most would go back the next day with the same mentality only to have an off day and be scrounging for there next dollar bill.
