Hey all. I've only been learning forex for a few weeks now, and I'm curious as to what companies everyone trades with? I've only had experience with Refco and Oanda so far. Thanks!

I've been using Refco and it appears to have a 5 point spread for most things. I'm going to try out FXCM because it advertises a 3 point spread on EUR/USD, although I'm a little confused because it appears they are made by the same company?

I dont think so FXCM give 3 pips spread on mini account. FXCM and REFCO give 3 pips spread on 100K account.

If you are looking for best spread Oanda is the answer. EUR/USD spread is 2 pips and it drops to 1.8 during Europe and US sessions.

Wow, that was a lot of useful info. Thanks guys. By the way, do any platforms offer an automatic trailing stop, or does that term simply mean you have to move it yourself?

Forex.com offers trailing stops. they are a great broker and a sponsor of this forum.

For automatic trailing stops use any broker using Metaquotes software. www.metaquotes.net. This software has feature of trailing stops and its very neat

I've been messing around with forex.com. It's different from FXCM in that you indicate lots rather than indicating how much money you want to put down (unless, of course, I'm looking at it wrong. I'm still relatively new.). That's kind of cool, good to learn what your money is actually doing. I can't find anything about trailing stops though, in any of the documentation or anywhere in the actual platform. I'm also curious about this:

"In the rare instance that the market gaps over a requested rate, the stop is filled at the best available price."

Does that mean that if the market jumps your stop, there's a chance you'll incur even more losses? I know that FXCM makes it deliberately clear that your stop gets filled where you place it, regardless.

I misunderstood FXCM about their spreads, by the way. They only offer a 3 pip spread on some currencies on their 100,000 lot accounts. Mini accounts get a 5 pip spread on those same currencies (EUR/USD for instance.)

My mistake, FXCM works by specifying how many units (k) you want to buy. I don't know where I got the idea that you instead specify how much money you want to put into a position.

btw, in the Forex.com platform, Trailing Stop is a "type" of order. so when you hit "new" in the order section, specify that you want it to be a trailing stop. play around with it, you'll get it.
