The reason we were bickering was because he said he would code the idea. Then I gave him the idea and he wouldnt give me the code citing BS reasons.

I trade differently now, pure SR and I'm becoming very wealthy doing so.

And thats why I shorted the AUD/JPY not the USD/JPY. Because the US $ was strong today.

It's good to understand actual fundamentals in times like today.

Today was a "risk dump". Pro-risk are equities (all markets), corporate/junk bonds.

Anti-risk are government bonds from solid nations.

Currencies depend on the specific economic era. Generally pro-risk currencies are those with high relative carry, so those would be AUD, because AUD's strength depends on Chinese & world economic growth because AUD goes up with commodity prices.

Anti-risk are the lowest interest rates/boring/safe currencies, e.g. CHF and JPY. USD is anti-risk because it's a world reserve currency so that when investors dump their risk assets (think stocks and risky bonds) they are usually denominated in USD and so they end up dumping multiple currencies and buying USD, so USD goes up.

And at the moment the USD looks like a better bet than EUR because the present risk is more in Europe. If the euro were a reserve currency then the euro would go UP when people dumped stocks. The present problems make people feel that the euro cannot be a reserve currency in its present state so they dump it. (If the ECB kicked out Spain/Greece/Italy and formed a very hard currency out of Germany/France/Netherlands/Denmark/Sweden/Norway, then it would act more like a reserve currency and be anti-risk rather than pro-risk).

AUD/JPY is a classic pro-risk pro-carry pair. The higher the interest rate differential, the more a currency pair acts like an equity market and is correlated with them. Theoretically currencies are symmetrical up & down but in practice they sometimes aren't. Stocks trend up moderately and then they panic quickly with volatility. So when stocks crater, AUD/JPY will crater (unless stocks are cratering because of commodity inflationary pressures, metals/oil which benefit AUD)
