Hi,

What is the exact definition of a stopping volume? Given some MT4 indicators and a VSA pdf I've downloaded on this thread, a stopping volume appears on a down bar with high volume and closing on the upperside.

However, in the book "mastering the Markets" a stopping volume appears on a down bar with high volume, but the spread too must be wide, and this is the next bar which is up and closing on the high.

What is correct?

Hi Daniel,
Stopping vol should only be refer to when price have been in reasonably oversold position then being "stop".

For this 15m EJ chart, we can qualify this as stopping since it has been down for a bit (70pips or so since the trap upmove)

In other circumstance, e.g if it is a sideways or after minor retracement & u see such pattern, it is not refer to as stopping but rather a form of shakeout or basic test of additional strength. BUT ONLY after there have been strengths in the background already.

Stopping volume does not have to be on a wide spread bar. In fact if it is, then it's more likely to be climactic action.

Stopping volume can come in several guises. It is better to look for what stopping volume means in the market rather than what it looks like.

We are looking for a point where during a down move, the weak holders start to cover their long positions by selling. This gives the SM a chance to step in and buy everything thats available to them. They have to do this quickly to lessen the chances of the price continuing to fall against their position. The SM will not be buying if the price is continuing to drop! The price will rise with their buying into the herd.

So what will this look like on the chart.

The herd are selling to cover longs so, they're selling because the price is falling. Giving us a down bar.

The SM are buying everything quickly meaning, as soon as the herd want to sell, SM will buy immediately at that price, So price cannot go any lower resulting in the spread staying narrower as opposed to widening.In fact, buying will push prices up.

So we have a down bar closing in the upper portion with very high volume on a narrow ish bar.

If the SM are buying at this point, you can bet your backside that the next bar is up, confirming this.

If it was a ND then an ideal entry might be when the bar after it breaks the low of the ND.
Sry intel, to me thats no demand, showing weakness in the uptrhust. I call these nd's and they make money for me. Dont want to be rude but it works for me. Might not be a perfect nd, and it might so selling in the ut. but the shape is like a nd and it was high up.

Maybe this a important lesson for everyone to learn. That vsa is differnet to most people and you should have a basic understanding of the principles, and find what ever makes you profitable.

Hey I've no problem with that

For all I care you can call it a saucepan.

However this is a VSA thread, and according to VSA....that is not a ND. Ther is a name for that bar......it's a polar bear in hawaii

A no demand bar is an UP-BAR, intel is right.

I find that guide an extremely useful piece of kit. I keep it with me always when I'm at the computer. It's very handy for checking up on the validity of the indications when I'm not sure.

very confusing picture on gu for sure HOWEVER the range is complete for the day at 110 pip . So I do not think this will go any higher as daily range has complete.

Now we go into a sideways channel with top 1.5485 , low 1.5440 ish ( think of this channel as the price moving sideways within the wick of the dialy candle)

we now have to wait for next euro session to see which way the the next days trading session is
