Why would I want to trade anything less? I can trade a full lot with just $250, if I blow $250 I get a margin call and can only ever lose $250. Trading a higher leverage doesn't make it any riskier, it doesn't change your trade.
To me it makes perfect sense to use as much as you can.
I actually operate with around $2,500 in my account and take all profits out.
I current trade 15 mini and soon moving to 2 full size lots, again with 400:1 I actually only need $500 in my account to operate.Ignored
