I would just like to make a point here.

If you look at history and thats where sentiment shows its result you will notice the following:

A country with high employment is usually the strongest.

The country where people aspire to work more becomes stronger.

The country where there is a huge middle and lower income group will aspire to earn more. Will invest more.

China has become the factory of the world and that my friend is something which isn't easy to change in near term. If the China bubble, if it is a bubble, bursts then believe me the developed world will come to its knees, the crisis we just saw will look like a needle where the china crisis will be the haystack.

China and India have one thing going for them. The common man here does not believe in living on credit. The have a more traditional approach which is: Save a lot, spend a little. This provides stability at the basic level.

The above are the positives. There are two very big negatives to consider though:

1- India: The corruption level is unbelieveable.
The government is well SHIT(I live in India).
Population and education are also worrying.

2- China: The most opaque economy of the world.

the best 5 years investment in any case it will be gold.

5 year best investment would be US BANKS, Insurance, Materials

Bank of America, Citigroup
AIG
ALCOA, United Steel
CASINO STOCKS. MGM

I would also add that Gold is gonna rise over the next 5 years. Just look at the last 5 years!

Actually, I would stay away from gold - I have a feeling that as soon as Bernanke raises interest rates, the price will begin to return to Earth. Oil, however, is the way to go - demand will outstrip supply in a few years.

Gold $2400 by the end of 2010 and then off to $6000 in the next 5-10 years.

I think thats overly optimistic, If you put a dow graph over a graph for gold over as long a period as possible you will see gold pretty much does all of its gains during and just before recessions I think we have another wave of recession left and if it results in even more quantitative easing I think gold will rise to over 2000.

Why do you think 6000 is possible in that time? do you think the dollar will collapse? I don't see that coming in 5-10 years but maybe it will loose its status as world reserve currency.

All fiat currencies go to zero eventually. Yeah, Gold 6K is a stretch, but its as good as a predication as any other one I guess. LOL

I think it does belong around there but the price is manipulated, maybe that will change as the ownership of the worlds gold changes hands.

I have been doing some very serious research for a business venture:

Here are my thoughts:

There are only two things which will make money in every eventuality:

1- Alcohol(and various intoxicants)

2- Medical services( includes medicine, hospitals and every other form of healthcare)

3- Travel services

Alcohol Industry:

I dont think Alcohol industry is viable anymore(too much competition from some very big boys) set-up cost is high, marketing cost even higher, maintaining standard is a very problematic area.
Going in for a low cost brand here is opening yourself up to even worse competition.

Medical services:

This is my favorite at the moment.

Requires a high-level of expertise(available at low cost). The work is not being done in micro format yet. i.e. level of micro health care/availability of medicine(original) is not high.
The big boys are earning enough to not bother with the smaller market. Reasons: If you can expand as much as you want in major market and be full occupied, why would you set-up in smaller market where possibilities and scale are not high.
Diagnostics and proper guidance is not provided to smaller market unless willing to come to larger market, once in the large market might get to know didn't require to come(end up wasting money).

This is an entrepreneur's dream market. Lots of links missing in a chain.

Travel Services:

With the global business model. The need to travel for business and pleasure is going to increase even in case of financial instability. My model says it will increase more in times of financial instability.

With most big companies now working with "Other people's money" the business will gain from travelling execs and workmen.

The medical idea is third world centric with a reverse i.e. third world to first world medical care model.

Travel services is a global idea more centric to countries with increasing international business.

Alcohol: well as they say is a worlwide idea.

I am thinking of investing in the Medical idea, model says growth would be as much as 2000-3000% in 5 years.


The above have started looking like the best investment possiblities to me.
They are more of a venture capitalist play though.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

a good way to look at business ventures also is regulation.. if there is a huge amount of regulation surrounding the product or service odds are you dont need to be in the ring because the market is overly saturated

when the are subsidizing an industry there is usually very little regulation, they pay you to operate in the sector, which means there is usually very little competition.

just like an a good trade buying a business that is subsizided from the beginning is a great idea, anything that is at reduced cost, and one were regulations dont limit the growth of the business.

these can occur within different saturated business segments as well. rental industry is saturated but green(sustainable) rental industry is not. the alcohol industry is saturated but not the alcohol relations industry or fruit wines
