DislikedThanks but really i am not looking for a system- more of a direction to focus my education. I know people relate learning trading to learning other difficult professions such as a surgeon.
I don't have a problem putting in the time and effort but is it huge amounts of knowledge that we need or is it more practice.
For example i could tell you how to play tennis but it would take you many years of practice practice practice before you could actually any good but even then you still need to know what you are doing is the correct technique.
I know...Ignored
keeping in mind i'm cranky... regardless, crap like the above really sits wrong with me. nothing against the poster or anything the poster is saying so don't get me wrong and the wanting direction for learning is ace and so on, but the comment after it that i hear repeated so often about the whole idea of 'how long to be a surgeon' vs 'how long to be profitable as a trader' is such a HUGE WANK of a comment by supposedly successful traders and now people are starting to believe it since they hear it so often now, and comparing it to pro sports is just as much of a wank and completely useless!
the market is the market. it has different... let's say, moods... but it's not like one day you are playing tennis against your friend next door and the next you are playing against the number 1 player in the world and you suddenly have no chance in hell of competing. if you know how to profit from it you know how to profit, and if you do not you do not. can we cut the crap? someone please prove me wrong and set me straight, or let's all stop the melodrama of trading and the universe it encompasses :S
everything requires learning. the problem with trading is finding what is real and worth holding onto and finding what is just crap. this is what takes time. the stumbling around in the dark hoping to find something that makes some kind of sense. it's like having your eyes removed and then being dumped somewhere randomly and been told to 'learn to survive'. surgeons don't get given dead bodies (demo trading) and told to have at it and good luck figuring it out and maybe you will be the 5% of surgeons who 'gets it'. in the same light they don't get given a live person to operate on and hopefully get it right someday (live trading). they have teachers who KNOW what is what that take them through the ins and outs of the body and step-by-step educate them until eventually they have it all worked-out and can cut into a person knowing exactly what is going-on, not basing anything on some vague notion of an axiom they have 'discovered' through trial and error. this education is what takes them years and years. THIS IS NOT WHAT SPENDING HOURS LOOKING AT CHARTS DEMO-TRADING IS. that is more like going into the woods and having to work-out how to successfully find food, water, shelter, and basically figure-out how to not die.... all on your own without anyone helping you along the way!
medicine started-off barbaric, and along the way knowledge has been gained and passed-down to others. the same is true of trading. the problem is that we can't all know real traders and have them tutor us in their knowledge. most of us are trying to teach ourselves because we have no one to specifically hold our hands. most of us are spending years stumbling around in the dark trying to make sense of things.
show me one surgeon who has done this!
