Like usual I would always drop out on super news or major fundamental stories. There simply is noway to make a program know in advance something big is going to happen. That is the knowledge a skilled trader must learn. However, I believe I can cut that risk to the barest minimum with my idea. The pending order concept I believe would work great with this idea so if price does spike or move suddenly in one direction, you would not be entering until it came back down or hit a S/R area and stalled. I know of no indicator or trading system based on the concept I think I have come up with. It is simple but unique way charts are based on an MT4 platform. I believe I can use it to my advantage. However, without a properly written new type of EA I will not know if my idea will work in the real world or not.

Maybe you could contact SteveHopwood. He has programmed a bunch of EA's that incorporates some trading ideas from ScoobyDoo lately. Maybe he can help you out.

In order to apply the idea of different levels for each pair I manually adjusted the levels on my Demo account. All pairs with GBP I set to 300 pips TP and Levels all other pairs I left at 200. (Demo account has 12 pairs to trade)

Been following this thread for over a year now, testing all ur ea's and I have found that they all work great. I thought the bb was a step in the right direction, then Iamthat added that pending order stuff. Now ur working on a self adjusting pending order ea. Doesn't the bb do that now? This thread just gets better and better. I wish I could program as to get more involved but I can't. I will test and keep the thread informed.

The one weakness which is not a big one with BB is the lines tighten and enlarge so they will miss some trades and enter early on others. I dont think the BB are bad but I think my idea will be an improvement over them. Anyway that is my hope, wont know until I test it live. Then we will see.

Hey Nanningbob,

Currently I am trading on 60x90 with decent success. I would like to get ur suggestion on increasing the lot size. I have been using initial lot .02 with a multiplier of 2 (.02, .04, .08). There are 3 possible scenarios to increase the size of the positions.

S1: (.04, .08, .16) (Multiplier 2x)
S2: (.03, .06, .12) (Multiplier 2x)
S3: (.05, .07, .11) (Multiplier 1.5x) - I am unsure if IBFX accepts decimal multiplier.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I have been using the first two = the third. so I use .03 .05 .08 3+5=8 or 4,6,10 4+6=10, etc. So I would like .05 .07 .12 or .05 .08 .13. Got it?? Ibfx uses decimal multiplier so that works. Stay away from interest rate and super news stories and you can be profitable. Good luck

I've opened a demo account with FXCM-UK to test the EA. They allow hedging and margin is 200:1. However, the EA is not taking trades. I have the smiley face so I believe I have everything setup correct.

By the way, FXCM-UK is a 5 digit broker. I've adjusted the entry/exit pips in the properties dialog but not in the code. Does that make a difference?

After a chat with FXCM, they are saying the EA has to be setup for ECN trading. Is the 1H Nanningbob 40MA BB setup for ECN trading?

Appreciate any help.

I had the same problem with FXCM with this as well as other EAs. Basically ECN is a 2 stage order and the general agreement in the FF community is to avoid ECN at all costs. FXCM and other ECNs claim that you would not have such problems if you use their own software as opposed to Metatrader 4. I would recommend either IBFX (Although no hedging is allowed) or forex.com (UK branch allows hedging).

I hope this has been of some help.

Hello,

As I've promised, I'm publishing the BBFlex v2 results.
The equity is slowly growing, but so does the open drawdown.
Traders, could you please look for better settings (mine are in the preset file).
Is it worth to define level as units of standard deviation instead of absolute pips?

Hi NewEra, good to see you again. Guys with MBT and other ECN companies have found that you need to turn your EA settings on the SL and TP to 0 and only use the EA to enter trades. Then after the EA enters the trade you must manually put in your TP and SL. Not good with the 60x90 system but you can use the 180x100 since it has the wider ranges. Also you can do the same with the BB system and use a second screen of the same currency that does closes only. So one screen uses the EA to enter and the other screen uses an EA to exit. Kind of a pain but is doable. Here is a close only EA you can play with it. You can make adjustments to fit your trading parameters. It will close all the trades on the currenc pairy so if you have other trades going it will close everything on that currency pair no matter what the magic number is. Good luck.

Yes I am looking at that now. The problem is when the bands become narrow the different deviations are not very helpful. Try a 100 MA BB band maybe this would help some. See pic below. This is the eur/nzd which flys over the charts but even this pair will seldom go outside the bands dev. 3 unless they are very very tight. Using the 100MA keeps them spread out. My settings for this pic are Red dev. 3= 99MA; Yellow dev. 2=100MA; Yellow dash dev. 1 101 MA. Hope this helps. I get these ideas but I cant test them all. I wish you luck in testing this. I just dont have time to test everything. This is a 4H eur/nzd chart.

Just a thought on the 100 MA BB is dont enter off of the Dev 1 but only use two levels dev2 and dev 3 then you have a third level to enter on a recovery if you need on a really bad run. In this pic if you entered dev. 1 you would go -600 pips down before recovery but if you entered off of dev. 2 you would only go -400 and be only 2 levels deep. In my 2.4.2 recovery system that is its limit and you would be staying within its range. Just a thought.

In the last 6 months there have been 3 major interest rate stories for the AUD.
1. It raised interest rates and price went on a 3 week tear with very little retracement.
2. Then the next time the AUD raised interest rates price went nowhere.
3. Then when they didn't raise rates but were expected to it had a nice drop and then a retrace.

So you tell me Fundamentals are so easy to follow. BLAAAHHH ..............

What especially made me think of this thread are the mentions of using a martingale-type strategy but protected by options:

On the NQ, my maximum loss without hedging is around the 20k mark, which I mitigate with options and can get it down to around a third to half of that. Worst case scenario happens on 1.4% of trades. All of this is automated and I don't tend to stick in issues for 50 ticks at a time; it's a fast game."

"I have a non directional mean reversion strategy running on the ES that relies on specific volatility characteristics and I hedge out with options. The strategy works 95% of the time, but the losses are brutal. Therefore the key caveat with this strategy is to contain losses and that's where the options come in."

It sounds like one of his systems is similar to the Nanningbob systems and he's using options to protect himself against death trades.

Martingale strategies have led to limiting myself to just 2-4 levels. In other words I call it multi level trading. (it really isnt martingaling if you understand my 2.4.2 recovery system) It is nothing new, once in a while a big time trader will slip and mention moving into a position with several levels instead of the standard, enter, set SL, set TP. I was just lucky enough to cross this on two occasions but these were guys who simply did not talk about how they trade but they did the big money thing. It just made sense to me that a person doing 10 million plus on a trade wouldnt have a 50 pip SL on the trade. He did his work, commited to the trade and then waited for the market to go in his direction. If it didnt he would add another position. But these guys will sit on a trades for months. I just find it less stressful and easier to pick a point of entrance and if it fails do another entrance. The key being trading small so your account doesnt blow up.

Before hedging was banned in the USA. I used to constantly hedge losing positions to keep them from becoming account threatening losses. I then could wait until the market was favorable to my way of thinking and then trade my way out of trouble. If you are in the hole today. You could hedge your position, get through tonights news story and then get back to trading on Monday when things arent so crazy. Plus you get to bank any of the profits. So I love trading like this, hedging allows you to wait until the market meets your terms and then you can trade. The NFA banning it was idiotic.

Anyway I read some of his stuff and will look at it some more, thanks.

Changing an ea with a fixed stoploss and or takeprofit to work with an ECN broker is a simple exercise as long as you have some simple skills.

I am a real beginner and I can do it so it can't be too hard.

Look in the code for where it says

OrderSend(Symbol(), OP_BUY, Lots, Ask, 30,0 , Ask + TakeProfit*Point, "Buy", MagicNumber,0, Green);

Change the take profit bit to 0.

OrderSend(Symbol(), OP_BUY, Lots, Ask, 30,0 , 0, "Buy", MagicNumber,0, Green);

After doing that you will have to put in a bit of code to modify your original order so it has a take profit. Here is an example.
