Where to get USD historical data

Hi all,

I'm looking for historical data for the USD. I'm looking for daily closes for as far back as I can get.

So far, the furthest I can get is 1989. If you can point me to any sites that might have the data, it would be greatly appreciated.

I can't really help, I just remember looking for some historical data and came to the conclusion that you can't go that far back - I know it's pre big bang in UK, and probably about the same in the states.

Where did you get it back as far as 1989?

I can't remember how far back you can go, but you can go a long way back on EUR/USD and GBPUSD on Metatrader, you have to fiddle and download and switch timeframes if I remember right, I do remember running a 10 year test on an EA I'd written so it'll be back to 1999 at least, another trick you could do is get someone from an academic college to help you, there's a lot of free stuff for colleges normally so you may get some free for 'educational purposes'

I got EUR/USD back to 89 from MetaTrader platform, I'm not sure where I can get it from before that. I was thinking that maybe CRB issues may have eurodollar charts, but I don't know how far back those go either... and having to get them in chart form from old paper versions isn't really appealing... I thought there was a dollar index, but again, not 100% sure. Guess I'll have to look if there are no other potential sources.

This is just a thought, but perhaps you could contact NFA or CFTC or something. Surely the gov has been keeping records all these years... They should be available for public dissemination.
