I can't understand why the Euro price increased.
Here's what I know, The Feds increased the US interest rate to 4.25%, it means pushing the American economy forward leading to a higher USD price, and lower EUR, why did the EUR go up then???

If anybody can help me with the interest rate issue and its effects, I'd be very grateful...

the typical statement from the fed changed dramatically...

"There were major changes to the FOMC's explanatory statement, as the committee removed language that judged interest rates to be "accommodative", or in other words, adding to growth"

....why would you think the dollar should have gained on this ?

Pushing interest rates higher does not always mean pushing the economy forward...Actually interest rates must chase the economy and not the contrary as they are just a tool...You can have higher interest rates that prevents companies from getting loans and the economy goes actually backwards...There is a small fine layer between the rate which is just right for the state of the economy and the rate at which will spiral down the economy...

The feds are starting to worry now about this, they are starting to bring up the question, when are we going to stop as it should be soon, and maybe very soon...

If you want my opinion, the dollar days are not over yet, but they are pretty near...The Euro rose in my opinion because of 2 factors, the ECB showed everyone that they can act and raise Euro rates, and they actually did to prove it to everyone, and with the Euro rates still low, the Feds are coming to an end, probably within the next 3-6 months...

If the ECB starts hiking rates gradually, we must see a good Euro advance, and I think this is what everyone is expecting to happen in the second half of 2006...

This means that the feds are going to finish their hikes by the mid year, 2006, and the ECB is going to start hiking rates from there...The question is how consistent will be the ECB in raising rates if they actually did?? I suggest that you follow inflation numbers to know...Fundamentally, I believe that the inflation figures are the real answer to the state of the economy..I am not expecting the European growth to go very far, that's why I don't expect the ECB to be consistent in the rate hikes, but I believe they will go up to 3-3.5%...The Euro at 1.1700-1.1800 looks attractive with only 1% differential after 6 months from now...

Now if you want to know the answer to the inflation in the next year, look at energy prices...The UK is not expected to be affected by high energy prices because they are not a heavy importer of oil like the rest of Europe or Japan...On the other hand the US is implementing a balanced strategy for oil, where it imports large portions, but with reserves ready to push into the market to prevent disasters...

When inflation goes up and drags interest rates up behind it, and at the same time energy prices are high, industrial producion suffers at the end of this period, because the inventory cost keeps going up and up, and thus fuels more inflation and squeezes the margins of those companies as well...When the cycle comes to an end with inflation topping, most production companies are left with inventories of a high cost, which is a real negative, so they will start slowing production to get rid of the inventory first, because they are not selling what they used to sell during the inflation period...This will start back the spiral effect and inflation will reverse and in our case if energy prices don't go down, most heavy oil importers countries will drop into deflation, which is the case with Europe and Japan....I expect the inflation of Europe and Japan to top by the end of 2006...

Looking at the UK, inflation in my opinion is already topping, and will end soon before the mid of 2006, but since they are not a heavy oil importer, they probably won't enter deflation, but they will be forced to start cutting rates for the GBP by the mid of the next year...

The situation in the US is still better, historically, the 4-4.5% interest rates level indicates that the economy is in the best shape, and thus we are not seeing the end of this inflationary cycle soon...I assume that the US still have at least 1 and a half year of economic growth...If the feds raised interest rates to 5% or above, start worrying about the US economy, as this usually signals the end of the inflation...

The language used in the latest FOMC announcement is different from previous announcements. Punters like us guys and industry and banks etc are being prepared for a possible contraction of the US economy early in 2006. China too would have put their own interpretation on the words used. Being a small-brained primate, I did not take "confidence" from the announcement... then again what would an Aussie know.

I think the main concept is acomplying language. Look at ECB announcement for example, they really liftet rate but Trichet's comment was dovish and EUR went down in spite of hike. Also Fed's statement was dovish stating that there will be some rate hikes. this means that end of tightening is nearer, may be 2 more hikes, but I doubt we will have only 1 hike. Forex is very technical market so technicians main principle: "price is expression of all fundamentals" is very strong concept. Thus anticipation of rate hikes was in dollar price already but statement about end of hiking was not! but now in EURUSD we have this statement, let's look at more updates from ECB and FED, also fundamentals (CPI, GDP) are great to guess what they will do.

my observation . if you trade higher time frames and you are still worried about FOMC then i think you have a mental problem , lol
