Hey Chris, great to see your analysis on this one. I also spotted the pattern - having taken a short on the small daily bar a couple of days ago and got half taken out at BE (rest at 2R), I'm still bearish on this pair so I got in on the 4hour inside bar towards the end of the consolidation - with a stop above the consolidation.

I put reduced risk on this one as I wasn't directly playing a PA break in the way I normally would (i.e. from the actual consolidation, rather than just an IB inside consolidation) but so far things are looking good.

(I know that may not have made total sense to everyone so if anyone wants me to clarify how I made this trade let me know!!)

yeah we were suprised on the floor how little a move it was really , it was funny literally 5secs before hand the futures dropped 20 ticks then boom up 40 or so, but in the back of my mind I always knew it was gonna struggle through that 9320 area. As a side note the Aussie share index future (SPI) moved very little off the anouncement also into a fat resistance wall at 4900...

gonna be very itneresting in a few weeks come rate announcement

GBPUSD at very interesting area on my Chart....definately worth watching for the open on Monday.
We also have confluence with the 50%Fibs for a possible Short entry

Yeah, I am still wondering about it to be honest.....I knew it would have a fight at 92 area, but am surprised how it just "stopped".

Certainly something worth watching.

Hi,

I was browsing through my futures charts to practice S/R and remember that chris once told us that ETF is a poor man's way to enter the futures market, and options to limit your risk to stock market gaps.

Is there a list for what ETF is for what futures market? I hope there's an ETF for every market.

The only site I've found and learned about options is investopedia and a friend pointed me to optionsxpress to demo options trading, any suggestions? I don't really understand the mechanics of options, truthfully, all I've ever traded was price, cut and dry, all these expiry, put, calls, are driving me nuts... I'm just trying to sink it in for now.

Try this... (attachment) There's about 300 on this excel sheet. I would NOT recommend you trade all of them as many are very illiquid and can be incredibly choppy. I would say stick with the ETFs that trade 500k to over 1,000,000 shares a day -- I've sorted this list by avg. trading volume.

Hi, I've taken a peek at the spreadsheet, it still doesn't say what markets an ETF represents... and it seems that with such low liquidity on markets like, say, Sugar futures, I better off not trading them with ETFs.

What's the difference if I trade Ishares Silver and Powershares Silver?

also, then if I see a setup I wanna trade in a Commodity like say, Wheat, or Corn, I can see an Agricultural ETF only... and what exactly is a Total Return Commodity? wow... the diverse markets just shocked me!

What's a Dynamic Large Cap?

I've found that it's quite useful to look at the ETF provider's websites, such as invescoPowerShares, SPDR and iShares.

There's an ETF for Water, Clean Energy, and Wind Energy too! talk about a revolution global warming caused... or the high price of oil and natural gas...

How do you find the volumes though?

It does, you just need to look carefully.

Column E has my categories. For instance, you're looking for Sugar... Pick Commodity from the drop-down and the last line item (in row 278) is an item called:

SGG - Ipath DJ-UBS Sugar Subindex that trade 26,000 shares/day.

Well... I could tell you the difference, but it's best to learn how to find this on the internet. Go to http://biz.yahoo.com and from there look up DBS by entering that in "get quote". From there, click on the "Profile" of the security. That should take you Here: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=DBS

Read the descriptions, most of it's there..

New year hopes:

-picking up stocks charts

about stock charts, I think finviz is a nice tool, and I would like to ask you something: to pick the most liquid stocks what "average volume" and "market capital" parameters should I set?

See if you can stick to stocks that trade at least 5-10 million shares a day for starters......that should keep you nice and liquid. Of course, anything above that helps.

For what it's worth, when I started, I did just the stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Didn't mean to be so glib in my response...

DBS (I think) is a fund that promises you the return of the silver index. To achieve this they use various methods like futures, options, and total return swaps.

SLV does one thing: buys silver bullion. GLD does the same thing just with gold (they own more gold than MOST central banks...crazy) and they store it in their vaults.

For the question about the "dynamic" portfolios, I think (not 100% sure) that those portfolios are not mechanical indexes, I think they change/are dynamic based on some pre-defined criteria. Like say earnings growth or based on a momentum indicator or some other quantitative characteristic. (And now you know why I called them "funky").

Actually, I am not the options master.....that would be Kulu. But, as a general rule, I buy or sell them occasionally as a directional play. In other words, I am not concerned with expiry, or anything else. I simply buy a call because I think it's going up......and I sell it later. Think of it as a cheap way to scalp maybe?????

Infinity.....please post this in "trading related goodies" in the private forum as well. This is great!

It also reminds me of something I love about ETFs.....

If you believe that the Mexican Stock Market is going to go up, then you can buy an ETF for that. (example) It's a great way to get "into" other markets.
