What was your biggest Forex mistake ?

Biggest forex mistake? Thinking that trading was p#ss easy, and that I could do a Nike. (Just do it).

Not placing a stop!! Was too scared of the loss, hoped it would retrace - ended up being the hugest loss that I still haven't recovered from and it still bites me in the behind.

When I was a newbie I had more troubles with rollover. Such a problem calculating them… if you are a newbie look for a broker that publish the overnight rates for each currency pair, mine does, I trade with ACM, but I think most brokers don’t so that is why I said look!!!

my biggest mistake so far is mix my real account and demo account.
This is during my early knowing of this forex stuff.

I develop an EA(under construction) with crazy idea and should put it on demo account.
Late night before going to sleep, i on it. By mistake I put it into my real account.

Woke up in the morning, wah...the account almost half.
Never do it again.

Blew my account with some stupid breakout system

I started live trading 2 months back and use a simple MAs and 1 hour candlestick to determine the intra day trend.

2 times i had increased my account by over 20% but lost all the gains.

First time due to overleverage and trade went against me and because i was overleveraged i manually closed my position. If i was not overleveraged, i would have been much confident to let the position run in little bit loss before it starts to reverse it self.

Second time due to friday NFP news. I had a long position open before news and i was lazy to close that position at a small loss. After news, within few minutes the prices crashed.

I believe in my trading system because i have not blown up my account and have experienced gains but due to2 stupid mistakes,i have given all the gains.

The most action oriented, happening, volatile business on this planet is forex trading. Needless it say, it is rewarding as well if things go in right direction.

Sorry for the delay - I did not subscribe to the thread. Yes I am making money, now. I have been trading forex live for over 2 years and during that time I have re-funded my account two or three times. I am not expecting to have to do it again.

Prior to that I traded shares but only in a very amateurish way and made money because of the bull market.

my one big mistake is to lose all my money in a single trade. ---the ever famous averaging down---

I once thought that martingale was a good strategy....

Give up sleep for trading. Never again.

FEAR WAS THE BIGEST!!!

on the top of my head:

-i tried to "apply" my aggressive/audacious, impatient personality into trading.
-from the onset, i focused on indicators instead of focusing on/starting with learning about support & resistance.
-trading with a malnourished brain.

all serious mistakes.. all 'pushing it' too much.

To much Hope ....

not focusing on how much i could loose on a trade rather than looking only on how much i could win... which is the beginning of delusion for the most of biginners.

ha ha ... trade in sleep for trading, a deal with the devil ... nice one

not keeping faith in my own analysis coz now i found most time i am correct if i keep confidence in my self.

greed and fear is again my mistakes

Off the top of my head:

1. Averaging up/down...the second worst mistake a noob can make
2. Moving my stops
3. Placing unrealistic stops and targets
4. Fear of losses instead of embracing the vital information that they give you
5. NOT TRADING PRICE ACTION! - This is the worst mistake anyone can make
6. Being overly ecstatic with winners and over depressed with losers
7. Forgetting that FX is a BUSINESS, not a get rich quick scheme

not trusting myself.
exiting winning positions too soon.

My biggest single mistake was going out for a haircut on a Friday, one and a half hours before market close, with an open 1 standard lot long on G/J. It’s usually about a 45 minute round trip to the barber, so I figured I had more than enough time to get back and close the trade before the weekend. But of course everything went wrong, every step along the way. Delays in traffic going there, delays at the barbershop, and more traffic delays on the way back. I got home 10 minutes after the close. Then some kind of negative event happened over the weekend that caused G/J to tank. I had a stop loss in place, but price jumped right past it by 100 pips or so. When the market opened again I was about 150 pips in the red, and it closed for a big loss. My fault all the way. I should have stayed home that Friday afternoon so I could close the trade myself. Lesson learned the hard way.
