Hi All,

As I'm a Brit can someone explain what Thanksgiving and Christmas means to Americans so I can plan my trade / No Trade days.

Is Thanksgiving in the US classed as their "Christmas" holiday, Does Business start winding down on Wednesday and closing completely for Thursday and Friday ?

And what happens in the US when we have our "Christmas" at the end of December, do they trade and work as normal, or is this a second holiday period.

I know it's sad and I should be thinking about holidays etc, but I just want to gauge what days if any will be worth trading.

Thanksgiving - busiest travel holiday of the year in the U.S. Things start winding down by mid-day on Wednesday. Everything's shut down on Thursday and many smaller businesses on Friday as well.

Christmas is pretty much the same as yours. X-mas eve day (24th) things wind down by mid-day. X-mas day everything's shut down.

Hope this helps.

Remember that more volume goes through in the London session of trading than the US session.

I don't take any notice of such events. My backtesting didn't stop on holidays so I trade through them.

the Forex market as a whole will not be closed for US holidays, but your broker will most likely close for a period especially if they are US based. this creates a situation where you could have a position in the open market but not have access to close your position or place orders. make sure you check the schedule of your specific broker and plan accordingly.

Relax and be happy.

Ignored
If my broker, that I am trading an international market, closed because of a US based holiday, I would change without hesitation. I use FXCM and Oanda and neither will be closed (as far as I am aware).

MG Financial sent me an email 2 days ago telling me that trading will be closed during the Thanksgiven holiday...Although I don't like it, but I accept it, those guys are humans too and they need to get their holidays and vacations done..

Thanks,

Nader
