I spent some time yesterday checking the results of the "simple" method of getting an EA to run on an offline Renko chart (uncheck the offline charts box in chart properties).

Everything appears to work just fine using the simple approach. There was a valid concern expressed that MT4 (in its mysterious internals) would erroneously tamper with the bar closings but MT4 appears not to update non-standard timeframes.

Now comes the hard part - writing an EA that actually makes pips

Thanks again Mimmo for raising this issue and providing a permanent fix for those who don't want to have to remember to check/uncheck the offline charts box to run an EA. Incidentally, if you do forget to check the box again before shutting MT4, the next time you start it the offline chart will show "waiting for update". This is MT4s way of saying that it cannot update an M2 chart - simply uncheck the box, close the offline chart and restart MT4 - everything will be back to normal.

I also looked to see if there was a way to modify the offline charts box from within MQL but no joy there - those running EA's will just have to remember to do it manually.

Well, the indi in the lower window is Dean Malone's Traders Dynamic Index (google it if you're interested). Don't know about the indi's in the chart window...

Lou - I did the same thing - tested on BroCo - did not have good results as you had. Can you post your updated EA, maybe I got a bit outta place?;=) Thanks, Ken. (Even with all the options, the EA would work somewhat, but I had some iCustom calls that did not update. Some other stuff seemed to lag.)

Sorry, thought BroCo was an EA I had not heard about. The EA I used for testing was a simple Trailing Stop EA that I had laying around - nothing special. It does not have any iCustom calls in it.

I'll try something that uses iCustom when I get a chance and post if it doesn't work.

Found an EA that used iCustom to get the value from another indi - works fine. Maybe something about the indi you are calling with iCustom?

Post your code and I will look at it as I get time...

Loving the renko!

Have read this thread as well as some others perhaps I have missed it but does anyone know how to get more renko bars in history?

I currently use the renkolivechart_v3.1 ea and can only get about half a days worth of renko on screen with a 10 pip box but managed to increase this slightly by adding more days to tools-options-charts.

If there is anything else I could try would be great to know.

it gives you a clue about traders interest in those areas.

What you need is more M1 bars. On your M1 chart press the left arrow key and hold it down - you should see history being added. If not, try on a weekend - I think my broker restricts this during live trading hours.

I tried this on various pairs but it not work for me. Any other suggestions ?
