I must admit, these are easy to recognize long after the fact... nevertheless, I use these compressions to locate trade opportunities where there will be sudden and often larger relative pips movements to follow when the 'spring uncoils'. It's just another method and it reduces my chart time.

You're not way behind using the 5m chart. Sure you wait til the candles move below the range (in this GU case it was about 20 pips) or you could set a entry at the earliest sign of break from the compression with a tight s/l if your analysis indicates a likely direction to follow. Could drop down to the 1m for even a better entry when you see the 5m compression developing. (Obviously, I like to look at the higher tf's first for any sign of gathering and then drill down to the lower tf's and it's usually in the process of compression.)

In those recent 5m charts I displayed, on both the GJ and GU (at different times) the ema's started to separate as it broke the tight lower range which was around 20 pips and it never looked back. The ema's kept separating and the full movement simply on this 5m set-up reached past 100 pips (GU) (almost exactly 100 pips from compression til the 18 and 36 ema's crossed back upward) (200 pips on the GJ). By now both GU and GJ have begun to reverse with these ema's.

You're using the smaller timeframe charts for entries like scalping but you're remaining in the trade longer by using the ema's separations (6 - 144 or whatever you choose) which really reflect hours of past movement patterns, like looking at higher tf charts.

I'm just presenting some ideas on a particular pattern recognition. I see this as an interesting chart set up where the gathering and compression of multiple ema's (especially if they stack very tightly) and if so then ALWAYS an explosive unwinding or uncoiling (relative to the tf) producing volatile uni-directional price action or pip movement.

Should be a useful tool to add to your bag of tricks.

Pkr is a good mm/probability so why not, we can gamble there, practice folding as piters said and get back here and exit those positions while still profitable LOL without staying too much with our bias.

It's different when it comes to real money, poker it's just a game as long as we don't put money in it but if we practice we'll get some skills from poker too.
