Me and Fool are getting ready for the rainy season here...the next eight months!

I'm not kidding though...the Pacific NW is really a nice place to live. I've lived all around the US, and several countries in Europe and Asia.

If I had to choose a "best" place to live from where I've been there is no question whatsoever - Singapore is it.
Ignored
yes, singapore has almost everything except for great scenery. which can be compensated by a few hours flight. to bali, thailand, malaysia or japan and hongkong!!!

no worries about natural disasters here ever. safety is also no problem, famous for low crime rate. trading fx is tax free, as there is no capital gains tax here. internet speed is also top notch. can get up 100mbps with free mobile broadband for under sgd$130.

if you are a normal sleeper who keep to normal hours. get up at 8am and you can trade. as the australians and japanese are already in the market. although things will be slow abit. europe starts at around 1pm and the londoners come at 3pm. the americans will come at 8pm. thanks

Great thread, but why does one of your requirements have to be "inexpensive living"? If you're a good trader, that seems like a non-issue.

Personally I live in southern California, and while it's beautiful here, I'm thinking of doing some traveling soon. Just wherever the road goes, as long as I can get high speed internet access. So as far as where the best place to trade from is, I would have to answer wherever you can get a satellite uplink or wifi, as well as wherever you feel like being.

Just a short trip to Indonesia or (this is awesome) an hour or so on the bus into Malaysia and a short boat ride to Pulau Tioman. Nothing better - I promise!

Don't much fancy Singapore - too many rules and regulations for my liking. As the Singaporeans themselves say - It's a very fine city, you can get fined for this, that and basically anything you care to mention.

Asia has a lot of beautiful places.
around May, i posted some pictures of my country here.

btw, u dont need a super-fast internet to trade, imho. i have tried dial-up before. now i am on 384kbps, pretty ok for trading.here we have internet plans for +/- $20-80 (most now bundled with landline).
also, if u have a fast internet but got a crappy PC, then it ends up as a crap imho.

not all (good) traders live in a extravagant fashion.
also, not all traders consistently profit.

whatever a person does, expense is always an important matter.
when a person is earning a lot, it does not necessarily follow that he should spend a lot. whatever the circumstance, a person should live within, or better yet below, his/her means. imho

I take it some of you guys that travel and trade are using wireless networks. What safety precautions do you recommend when trading this way?

Don't share your account password with your "ex" bargirl girlfriend.

I will suggest to use a strong firewall and a good anti-virus... and not to save any password in laptop...

Perhaps just try to be a little more choosy when picking a girl to date.

Personally I don't share my password with anyone, which is sometimes a pity as I frequently forget it myself. I haven't taken any particular precautions when using my phone to trade as I'm not aware of any that I can take. This is via GPRS and not a wireless network so I am not sure of the issues.

Singapore is a nice country.. Neat and clean... Not that expensive... Banking facilities are very good.. and time zone is also perfect to trade forex and options... Even I am planning to move in Singapore....

You can't live in Singapore until you have a big investment or a company in Singapore... You can open your own company in Singapore at very low cost... and for first 3 three years TAX is 0% if yearly income is less then 100k SGD... and after 3 years you have to pay 9% if less then 100k SGD and 17% if more then 100k SGD... But still there are many ways you can reduce tax... Your consultant will advise you in best ways...
Success is a journey not a destination...!!

...so i am contemplating moving but unsure of where to. The ideal place needs to offer the following:

1 - Great weather and scenery (preferably tropical or mountains)
2 - Inexpensive living - best bang for the buck etc.
3 - Good schools (for our kids)
4 - Safe for Americans / foreigners etc.
5 - English is prevalent thus making it easy to get around (if outside of the US)
6 - Low crime
7 - Hight speed internet available (this is a MUST)
8 - ....anything else you can think of.

Right now I am looking into Phuket Thailand but looking for input...

Definitely Southern Spain. Malaga area or Marbella.
All of the above apply, weather, mountains, schools etc. plus you are in Europe, which in trading means you can take advantage of the European market and US market during your day.

Visited Seattle in July, I parked the car at one of the private parking lots in downtown (apx. 10 minute walk to Space Needle). Not a big problem if you know where to find them.

I live in Amsterdam and have been thinking of going to California for 3 months (max stay without a visa) during the winter time. It's better for me to stay a Dutch resident due to 0% tax on financial markets trading. But it gets horribly cold during the winter here (humid and hard wind) so SoCal would suit me more.

Only concern of California would be the difficult time...

Everyone seems to want to just flee from where they are trading from right now. How weird. I would never change my location, no matter how many bucks. I would probably own a house or two for nice trips during the summer.. but I figure if I move to spain and I will only see sun ... I'm going to miss the winter. If I move into the mountain area I will miss the summer. Change is what makes it what it is guys! ..and you can always travel and travel and travel

Anyone considering moving away from their birth country is making a grave mistake. You new adopted country will never be the same. Some countries have overrated assessments and that can be totally disappointing once the reality sets in. After a while you will regret the move. You will not like the mentality/culture of a new country and you will feel outsider.

You won't have much in common with anyone and eventually you will despise everyone because they will feel the same about you. Detrimental to your health.

I speak from experience. I hate living in USA for above mentioned reasons but moving and selling real estate is not as easy as some might think.

Cheers
