Hi Steve,

USDJPY looks good for the first 25-30 pips as session-opening breakout, with stop of around 30 pips. Some days it hits 70 pips, and occasionally > 100. I'll be doing some research on this.

Good to exchange notes with you. I followed your journal since Feb last year - it's one of the longest and most read ones on FF. Admire your patience and determination!

Yes I noticed this pattern some time ago and eventually decided to backtest it using different stop losses and exit rules.

USDJPY is also a good one to look at (nice tight spread) and session opens often do produce that reversal the method is after.

The daily method I've only just started trading live. I'll talk about that more as time goes on. You will notice that I could be long on one method & short the other at the same time so that means a non-US broker allowing this.

Hi again,

Just seen that you've just started a journal too and that you've been through the initiation stage lol.

The important thing is you're still here and reading through your first post you've done a lot of soul searching, reading and testing which is great!

Looking forward to reading your progress. Trust me, if you can keep your journal up for a year it will be the best education you'll ever have.

Short taken at London open from 1.43026 with stop loss at 1.43276.

Still holding daily long from 1.42211 (s/l 1.41865).

Short stopped out around lunchtime for a 1% loss.

Daily long stop loss moved into profit by around 0.5% at 1.42336.

Not that different from yesterday morning although overall risk today is 0.5% over the two trades.

Short taken at London open from 1.42872 (s/l 1.43122), normal 1% risk.

Daily long still on from 1.42211 with s/l now 0.5% in profit at 1.42336.

NFP today so there's every chance both positions get stopped out in the 'fun', however a pretty good possibility also that one will be riding high by market close.

Let's see.....

Well was off work today and a few hours ago locked in 1% on the short from London open. Just got back in to see we've bounced big time and the stop loss hit.

London open trades for the week total +227.5 pips (+9.1%) so have to be happy with that.

The daily long trade was stopped out during the NFP drop for a 0.5% profit too

Hi Steve,
Its a good thing that you were at home. I was wondering if you would be stopped out for a loss of the short as well as the long.
I also got stopped for a profit of 2.4% (61 pips). I am currently kicking myself that I didn't get out at the support around 14190 . I thought it would re-group and then blast through to 1.4150, but I didn't reckon on Mr Roubini messing the plan up.

Yes, good you got a cool 2.4% too - thought we'd bounce to 4230 area before having another real go at 4190 area but yes, Roubini messed things up rather lol.

Almost feel like I cheated today but then NFP day is always crazy. It would still have been a cracking week despite today.

Sounds like you've had a good week too so now time to relax and look forward to a new week Monday.

Well, Monday trade short at London open from 1.43350 was stopped out at 1.43600 in just 9 minutes.

Back tomorrow at the same time.

Yes, it just kept going north didn't it?
That's where I have an advantage, I can wait until it shows signs of reversing, or just not get in at all. Today I waited until it reversed down to 1.43450 and got in at 1.4747.8. It went 10 pips my way, so my stoploss is now at -20. It is looking very undecided at present, so I may well get stopped out.

Better luck tomorrow.

Update: Yes, Was not looking and suddenly saw it around B/e so closed for +0.6pips! Should have hung on a bit longer.

Hopefully you've got out with at least a break even trade today

Yes, the way I have to trade the method is pretty crude but I guess my advantage comes when there is a pullback during the day. There would then be a decision to be made as to whether to take profit or tighten stop loss. Often US will continue the move later and that's where I manage to get the occasional biggie.

Hmm, high for the day still 1.4361 - annoying that grrrr!

OK, so the London open short was stopped out fairly quickly again for a 1% loss.

Today, however it's all about the daily long, entered last night at 1.43361. Currently just over 7% up and tonight will move stop to just below entry. Another bull day tomorrow and should be able to lock a few % in

Very nice steviet on the daily long - it appears to be roughly based on the daily London open price, though the stoploss is not clear.

For what it's worth, initial findings on the dollar-yen Tokyo opening seems to be promising, though the method is still being refined. Hope to complete a longer backtest period and yield clearer results soon.

The daily long was opened at new daily bar at 11pm last night (Alpari) and stop loss is a couple of pips below the previous day's low.

Stop loss will be moved to around 1.4325 in a few hours so essentially now a free trade.

The daily method really needs a few days of either higher lows (long) or lower highs (short), which hasn't happened a great deal the last few months. Nice to see a big daily bar and maybe even a breakout of the pesky range we've been in for ever lol.

Yes, let me know how you get on with your USD/JPY testing - would be interested to know.

OK, just closed the London open trade at 1.45688 for 83.5 pips (3.34%).

Barring a big sell off before end of day, should be able to move stop loss on the daily long to 1.44640 on the 1.43361 entry. That's a further 5.11% minimum locked in and guaranteed on that one

Well, not feeling great today - touch of the (swine) flu lol.

OK, the London open trade was stopped out for a 1% loss on the move down this morning.

However, the daily long still active from 1.43361, stop loss currently 1.44640. If the euro continues to rally this afternoon and we've already seen the lows for today, I can move my stop loss to around 1.4516 area, locking in a total of 7%+.

Currently up just over 10% and a break of 1.46 would be sweet......
