Main reason I have been bullish from 16162 with targets upto and including 170, 180 and ultimate target 190 area:

Cup and handle formation on GBP/USD.
Cup and handle formations in Forex are relatively rare. The main criteria is the cup should develop over a period of many weeks and should be smooth(ish), hence the term “Cup”.
The “Handle” is a consolidation period usually following this type of “Cup” and may last weeks also. I have shown on my chart what I am talking about. The profit levels are determined by taking the hieght of the “Handle” as the first target, the second final target is taken by taking the depth of the “Cup”, and adding it to the top of the cup, thereby giving me my long term ultimate target.
It should be noted that the break of the “Handle” is extremely fast and will be a surprise for many who have not experienced this type of handle break PA before.
Like I said, it is rare to find this in forex, but when seen should not be overlooked.
I am holding long from 16162, price now at 16330. NFP may be the trigger tomorrow (4th Sept) for this move to commence it’s final stage.
Of course, I could be wrong, but it is what I see on my charts. Please do not follow blindly, but plan your trade and trade your plan.

Malcolmb,

What is your assessment on things now that the S&P was able to cross the 1000 level in the last minutes of the day here in NY and close above. Is it significant enough to expect more up side now before a slide lower or is it brokers playing games in anticipation of over rated NFP number tomorrow. Its been hyped all day, all week for that matter and I cant help but think the chances of it becoming a non event are increasing as the clock ticks closer.

Your thoughts? or anyone else's for that matter would be interesting to hear.

Ewokuk, hope you got ou of 149 short successfully (I did not lol). You don't plan to keep the short all the way to the target? Do you just scalp on the way down?

i sort of got out of it, i opened another short higher up and managed to get out with some profit when it came back to 149.50 so i closed em there.

id love to keep the short to 147 or wherever it goes, but im not good at holding things once they get into decent profit, i dont like giving back all my pips lol

Hmmmmm i thought this looks more like a dbl shouldered head and shoulder pattern at a fast glance with the mini h&s almost complete then back upto the larger shoulder and cratering

I have been watching this also ..... but the handle has not yet broken to upside and you may be jumping the gun .we could get reatracement all way to 1.5500 or even 1.5000 and still have a vliad handle...

check out wekly charts dj , s&p , ftse , dax ...

check out double weekly dojis dollar index.....

I think the evening stars on weekly indexes will beat out cup and handle formation ....

double weekly doji on DX is just accumulation

gu daily is ont to watch ... todays candle was not that bullish infact got hit by sellers today for a 100 pip drop off 1.6400 and the trend on daily still down

direct trade ... you got this at an awesome price and nice trade .. but keep close eye on this one. ...

I'm just wondering why they seem to be trying to make things as obvious as possible. Those big boys aren't even hiding that they're ramping things up hard during the last hour. Gold went up another $20-25 for the 2nd day in a row and all Bloomy can do is say "weak $". errr yeah......no. Tell me again why crude is at $68.........

2 scenarios playing out and markets skewed with very low volumes last 2 days

1) the rapid move down was to entice bears into the market and they ramp her up to 1100 or higher off 1000 zone. .. there has been signs of accumulation 993.

2) the rapid drops was designed to entice new bulls into the market at discount ... the hanging around for 2 days is to make them buy thinking oh just little drop and then up we go again

volume signals seems miked.. the up move on 30 min had volume behind it. ... could just be profit taking before long weekend / nfp ...

I do not think market will find true direction till Tuesday of next week

as long as we end in the 1000 zone then weekly s&p evening star
