For what purpose, if I may ask? For commentary or for economic wisdom? John Maudlin and Roubini might be good for the former. For the latter, Keynes is one of the only economists worth his salt in terms of understanding and profiting from markets. I'll write further if some more come to mind.

I'm actually looking for long term thoughts and commentary. Thanks for the Roubini name. I've been reading on economics for several years now; started w/ Adam Smith; Principles of Economics; World Economy textbooks and various other audio lectures on macro economics, etc. I really should pick up something on Keynes - have you a recomendation?
I realize I need to be carefull in reading the thoughts of an economist. There is a reason trading houses don't let the traders mix w/ the analysts

Ha ha. I agree about your last note. To be completely honest, I haven't read any texts by Keynes, rather I learned all about him indirectly from hedge fund traders, other books, etc. If you're looking for macro stuff, definitely get a hold of "Inside the House of Money." It features interviews with hedge fund and prop desk traders on global macro strategies. I recommend this to everyone. It has a nice primer on macro and also an overview of global macro in recent history. Even if you're advanced you can learn a ton from this book.
You probably already read the Economist, but that's a top choice, in addition to economy.com's Dismal Scientist- full of no nonsense, global macroeconomics. Even though I have a full routine for my analysis already, I'd be interested in any new outstanding economists you find.
