I expect the next interesting date at 1330 GMT, when NYSE starts trading.
Then we will see how the equities will react. Futures are still above the yesterday close, but only a little ...

- The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits rose unexpectedly last week, while the tally of continuing claims fell.
Despite the increase in new claims, they remain below peak levels above 600,000 where they were stuck for most of this year.
Economists see the decline as a sign layoffs have eased in recent months. The Labor Department says initial claims increased to a seasonally adjusted 558,000, from 554,000 the previous week. Analysts expected new claims to drop to 545,000, according to Thomson Reuters.
Like 1/2 million of more people on the street is just a drop of water in the bucket....well..they still have a job!
What the fools do not say is that there is a huge wave of people whose unemployment benefits is expiring....there are not jobs...even though I am going for a job interview next week...

By the way, I am not trading for the rest of the week...time to rest...

You are right in relation to the umemployment.
But the retail figs seem to have been much more weight by the market today and they have been very bad.

Just read that guys other posts and he states in one that he has 7 months of experience. I think that says it all.

Been listening to the news this morning. Bad retail sales, more talk of a correction in equities, and a general "feel" that another shoe is about to drop regarding the recession/depression. I have been in the E/J and $/J today and am sitting on the side lines now.

Hi friends,

that have been two difficult and exhausting days.
I'm still fighting a loss, that I caused yesterday.
Thanx to the action in USDJPY today I managed to make it allmost back.

But it was a very good experience to see how patience and waiting for really good opportunities pays off in the end.

Yes, the last two days have been difficult. Long hours to wait for just the right trade setups. I learned several years ago to be very selective in August trading, but the markets will eventually move. Equity markets in US are bouncing all over the place, too. I have a gut feel that dollar bears are gathering to make a move, but uncertain if they will get control. MaMood, I think 94.XX is in the cards tonight or tomorrow. My last trade was in the E/J at 136.11 and it took quite a while to move below 135.90, so hang in there. I think the yen will gain some additional strength going in to the weekend, but what the heck do I really know - lol! Trade well everyone.

Which insight found in this thread is most profound, in your view?

For me, it's the realization that a 50% loss requires a 100% gain to remedy. This has implications way beyond trading. It explains why a small loss of social capital takes a disproportionate social effort to remedy. It explains why the slow erosion of love within relationships leads to exponentially catastrophic breakdowns. And why chipping away at old social certainties is such a risky business. It explains why a house that burns down in 10 minutes may well take 10 months to rebuild.

An example. Some brain-dead bogan decided it would be amusing to poke a firehose into some classrooms at a nearby school. The gain (his amusement) compared to the cost of fixing the damage is analogous to needing a 1000% gain to cover a 90% loss.

CPI figs out in about 15 minutes, looks like everyone has called it a week already........$bears have pushed it back up towards yesterdays high, but lets see if there's any unfinished business for this week...........
