Why of all the talk of taxes. You can't expect to live anywhere for free. City and government resources are not cheap nor free. Taxes are just part of the deal in living in your ideal habitat.

True. I'll agree with you on that point. Paying taxes is just part of the deal. I'm all for lowering taxes or living ins a lower tax bracket country but in the end I do expect to pay something for goverment services and assistance.

I would overpay in taxes if I can get a safe, clean, managable city to reside. If you think about it, the cities and countries with the highest taxes are the most ideal ones. Clean communities, very low crime rate, rich/moderate or extreme people of wealth, best schools, etc... I'm sure none of us are trading with the hopes of living a ghetto life. We traders want the best and should expect to pay for the best.

Actually, I am surprised that trading-related taxes are not discussed more often on FF. I am thinking that, given the way trading earnings are taxed in the US, I need to plan on giving up a large chunk of my daytrading gross (up to 40%?) to the tax man. I am still learning about this & someone please let me know if I am wrong. But, yes, obviously, unless you plan on flying under the radar, what you pay in taxes relative to where you live is a huge big deal...

i don't agree. people should pay taxes but just pay your dues. what people want is 2 lower the taxes they pay if they can. it's not a crime and if you can do it legally, why not?? also, if you live in a well known corrupt country. then why pay taxes?? so that corrupt politicians can take their cut. make some laws to screw you furthermore and take more from you legally?? just to line their pockets!!

uk's tax rate is quite high but is london it's capital safe?? in terms of crime rate. socialist and welfare states r well known 2 have high taxes. r they safe n have low crime rates??

for americans, u better take a watch n see attitude. especially on the u.s goverment vs ubs case. this case will have a huge impact on americans who keep their assets offshores. obama needs money, alot of it to pay 4 his promises. also to lower americans debt obligations to the rest of the world. he is targetting this segment of americans who goes offshore to avoid taxes. watch out!!!

it's also ironic. in this world that we live in. we have to pay to use the road that we pay to build. hahaha

Switzerland has a low tax rate and is one of the safest/ cleanest countries in the world. Sometimes I find the cleanliness a bit too sterile. It would be interesting to see the results of crime/ welfare junkies relative to tax rate study.

reminds me of a story on socialism. it's about a professor who r discussing about socialism with his students.

his students argue that socialism is good as everybody gets taken care of. everybody gets the same rewards, irregardless of the efforts put in. so the professor says 2 the students. let's do an experiment on socialism with the grades of the class.

initially, hardworking students got As n bs. while the not so enterprising students got Cs n Ds. after the experimenting was kicked in. the results of the exams was averaged n everybody got the same scores. this made the group of not so hardworking students very happy. Bs or Cs.

after awhile, the hardworking group of students realised this. why work so hard when we will get the same rewards. so they also became laxed in their studies. eventually, the whole class got Fs.

I was born and rasied in Houston and lived in Atlanta and New York all of my adult life. Happy that I got a chance to live in Atl and NY as my political and economic views would have probably been skewed and one-sided living in Houston.

Houston has changed and it seems more liberal and young. Though Ihaven't been all around Houston yet because we just moved here 2 months ago. Today's Houston reminds me of Atlanta and NY ... just cheaper. The cost of living here is very affordable and there is NO state tax. Food and services are/can be expensive ... I guess to make up for the no state tax deal. But all in all, Houston has been good to us for the past 2 months. Forgot how big this city is.

It has been said, however France is the ideal location (Personal Opinion) in respect to the time zones. the people are cool, beautiful food and wine. Climate is better than London (My current Location).

Excellent Thread as i was thinking about moving from London soon and this is helping me know how people from around the globe thinks about location, Cheers Rich mate ...

When I was in Wellington, New Zealand I quickly found out that NZ had the worst timezones for trading. Wellington NZ is the official city to start the trading day. They are first in the world but its pointless to be first if there is no action until the London Session. . When London session hits NZ is heading to bed.

Timezone wise it has to be Asia. Trade the 4H Box Breakout, the 0400-0700 GMT Breakout Strategy and the 7am-9am Big Dog USD Breakout Strategy.

For futures traders, the Nikkei opening (0745 hrs GMT +8 onwards), and the US opening (2130 hrs GMT +8 or 2230 hrs during daylight savings).

No one is talking about not paying taxes where they live. We are talking about the rapacious governments in the world who want to tax you even if you don't live there. I haven't lived in the US for over 10 years now, but if I show income over the limit set for expats, then I have to pay taxes. That's just not right and no one who is sane can say it is.

If I move back there, then fine I pay taxes. Paying taxes is supposed to be a mutually benefiting arrangement. I pay taxes and get roads, police, army, and other services. But if I don't use anything, then why should I pay for it?

That's what we are all talking about.

Btw, Congress passed a law years ago that states that if you renounce citizenship, you are still liable to pay taxes for 10 years. What it means is that if you renounce and then come back to the country, they can fuck you royally if they are so inclined. Not that the IRS or the rest of the government would ever do something like that, though.

Not sure where you are, D. - but can you gain dual citizenship or residency status there? If so, perhaps you could form a legal entity (a corporation, Sociedad Anonima, etc) that does the trading & then that entity's income would only have to be taxed in its native country, not the US....?

Of course, if you continue to pay tax in the US, you will get Social Security benefits, Medicaid, etc (assuming those programs will still exist when you are that old.) SS bennies nothing to sneeze at, I know people who live well in Mexico off their monthly SS check alone.

Fastest is 10mb at the moment, for personal use. Coverage can be an issue if you are not in Bangkok though.
