How disappointing that a thread about "are there any other women out there" turned into the usual misogynist, sexist, men are better than women, women are better than men, women are too busy thinking about shoes and handbags, women use discrimination as an excuse when they are no good at their jobs, and how much you can rent a woman by the hour for ...

Good traders, male and female, are serious minded and dedicated. And they won't be hanging around to read this trash.

OMG. Is this still going on? Look Leon, I personally couldn’t care if women are better traders than men or vice versa. I have far better things to spend my time on. The only reason I even posted to this thread initially was because it was the weekend.

What you have failed to understand was that this thread was about Kelly social networking with other women. It wasn’t about who is the best of the sexes, having a competition between the sexes, do you trade with scented candlesticks or naked, what clothes she’s wearing, whether someone can trade under her, what spread you get, that the difference between a battery and a woman is that the battery has a positive side, every man should own a woman blah, blah, blah. It’s boring and sexist.

If you would care to google Sexual discrimination on Wall Street or City of London you can read away to your heart’s content about the vast number of sexual discrimination cases against major investment banks and other large companies. This thread has shown the exact same mentality. If you think women are given the same opportunity as men in these environments, then you are naive and/or ignorant. Since you are only 21 I’m going to be polite and say you’re naive.

True, there are no women with threads in the FF Hall of Fame nominees but there are also how many threads and how many posters out there that say ... "help, I have been trading for 8 years and I can't get profitable or I blew all my money in the oil crash and my wife won't speak to me or I punted cable/ftse at 200 a point and now I have a margin call, etc., etc."

If there is one of these started by a woman, please show me.

There are no discrimination in the trading world, if there are not soo much women is simply because trading is an hard job and it is required much intelligence and mental stability to survive, sure there are some women that have these quality, infact there ARE some women traders, nobody here say that every woman is not smart enough to trade, we just must stay in the truth and try to not live a false reality, where women are the best traders in the world and they are not the owners of wallstreet because of discrimination, THIS would be very stupid to say, and i read something like this in this thread, that why i say that this is a sad thread.

I love women, I get on with women easily. I point out facts and evidence and you revert to ad hominin attacks? I'll repeat this, I know for a fact that there are women traders out there who could eat me for lunch. What I'm saying is they make up a small percentage of all successful traders. You need to think about how you reason and how to present a case based on facts.

IMO, to say any sex is a better trader Is kind of crazy. For starters, Institutions would snap up women traders if they were indeed somehow better suited, but this kind of mindset(talking about mindset and emotions) implies that trading Is something that is mythical and totally intuative. I dont beleive this to be true.

I think that profitable trading requires an edge, which makes trading much more about having an Information advantage. Being able to Gain this information advantage Is not dependent on Gender.

Maby the women who find them selves Trading have more of the 'Hunter instinct' compaired to your average woman? That would explain how they end up doing this for a living. Possibly have higher testosterone levels?

I am a woman, but I do not take sides based on my gender. The only thing that matters to me is fairness to ALL sides. I use my own common-sense to make my assessments.

There are aggressive/risk-taking female traders. There are aggressive/risk-taking male traders.
There are conservative female traders. There are conservative male traders.
There are disciplined female traders. There are disciplined male traders.
There are undisciplined female traders. There are undisciplined male traders.
There are patient female traders. There are patient male traders.
There are impatient female traders. There are impatient male traders.
There are emotional female traders. There are emotional male traders.
There are level-headed female traders. There are level-headed male traders.
There are successful female traders. There are successful male traders.
There are unsuccessful female traders. There are unsuccessful male traders.

I believe everyone here would agree that the above list can be considered facts, no?

And many times, each type of trader has moments where they do the opposite of their normal mindset/behavior. How many have been patient at times and then impatient at other times? Aggressive at times, then conservative at times? Emotional vs. Level-headed? There are probably fewer traders who can stay consistent in their mindset/behavior at ALL times. And depending on the method of trading that one does, sometimes adapting to the situation at hand is actually needed ... for example, a Scalper may need to become more aggressive when they see momentum/volatility building in the PA, while at other times they may need to proceed with more caution. A longer-term trader normally will not have to be as aggressive as a shorter-term trader just due to the nature of their methods.

Are there more male traders than female traders? Probably yes.
Does that make male traders better than female traders? No.
Does that make female traders better than male traders? No.
Will there probably be an increasing number of female traders in the future? Probably yes.
Will there still be more male traders than female traders in the future? Probably yes.
Will there ever be an equal amount of male traders to female traders at some point in time? Who knows ... maybe, maybe not. Does it really matter?

I actually only heard about the Forex because my husband told me about it. He had traded Options and when I mentioned that I was thinking about doing some trading, he told me that I should try the Forex.

Which gender makes a better trader?

The only true measure with any statistical value/relevance would be to quantify data based on obtaining EVERY Forex male and female trader in the world and entering their P/L statements. But even if we do that, what basis are we going to make calculations on? We cannot base this report on number of winning trades to losing trades, because one can have 50 winning trades in a row, but it could take just 1 huge losing trade to wipe out all preceding profits (I know, cuz I have done this in the past, lol).

Okay then, are we to base it on their account balance if it is higher than their starting balance? Well, that would still not be an accurate measure, because one could have started out with $100k and have a balance of $130k, while another could have started with $1k and have a balance of $10k. The prior certainly made more dollar amount profit, but the latter made a higher ROI/ROE. Who knows, the prior could have had ONE very lucky trade, while the latter could have had 200 very well-executed, skillful trades.

Also, the statistics would have to be calculated over a course of several years, because one can have a decent profit one year, and a huge loss another year. So, to be of any real value, this study would have to be conducted over a LONG period of time to truly measure consistency in profitability.

Seeing that getting every single trader's statistics is impossible to do, not to mention what I have stated above ... how can anybody give even the remotest logic as to which gender is better or worse at trading? So, in my opinion, arguing which gender makes better or worse traders, even based on reports regarding male testosterone levels, lol, or females being able to multi-task, etc. is not an engraved-in-stone kind of statistic.

I DO NOT have high levels of testosterone (please trust me on this one, cuz I do not want to have to explain why this is so, so don't ask me, lol) ... but I am a very aggressive/risk-taking person by nature. However, I also have a cautious/conservative side, as well, depending on the situation, but my risk-taking side is normally more predominant. So, as far as in my case, we can rule out the testosterone levels in females as determination of aggressiveness, haha.

Risk-taking or conservative, each can have moments of being beneficial or not. It all depends on the situation/circumstance in which they are used and to what extent they are used. BALANCE is definitely the key to a well-rounded profile, but the question is ... when do we take the risk and when should we be conservative? This is something we all have to weigh on a case-by-case basis. There is no right or wrong answer, because both have their place and only after-the-fact is when we know that we have chosen the right or wrong method. Unless one can predict the future, where the market will go is basically a crap-shoot. Sometimes we are right, while other times we are wrong. Everyone does the best they can in making decisions about which way they will go (long or short) based on their method of trading and how they are reading the PA.

Also, yes, there are many stereotypes for females and males, and there are always exceptions to the rules. I normally do not fit the typical stereotype of a woman (ex: I don't like shopping, and I don't need jewelry - my husband calls me a cheap date, lol). Also, I can be very emotional at times, and very level-headed at times ... I can be very patient at times, and impatient at other times ... and the list goes on and on. I'm sure there are many other females, as well as many males who are just like me. So, again, these stereotypes cannot be used as any measurable statistic to conclude in any definitive manner that because of the biological/emotional/etc. of a gender, that they make better or worse traders.

So, this gender war can go on forever with no winning side coming out of the rubble ... the question is, are you wanting to spend your energy and time trying to convince the opposite gender of unsubstantiated claims, or are you wanting to come together in a forum with brilliant minds of BOTH genders to discuss/learn/share so that ALL, both male and female, can benefit?!

kelly ... yes, there are a LOT of wonderful female traders here on FF, and there are a LOT of wonderful male traders, as well. If you absolutely need to find a network of female traders, there's two threads floating around with many female traders posting to those threads - one is in the Interactive Trading section, and the other in the Member's Lounge (hopefully, the two will be merged as one and left in the public section of the forums). If you know how to trade, you are a good trader.
If you don't know how to trade, you are one of the millions loosers.

Yes, intelligence (whether a male or female) is surely a wonderful asset to have and helps immensely, but I'm not sure that intelligence is a major criteria for being a successful trader.

I feel that even more than intelligence, a trader needs to have fortitude, implement discipline, let go of stubbornness (ex: know when to cut losses), let go of losses (don't hang on to and stew over it, just shake it off and move on to the next trade), be aggressive when needed, be conservative/cautious when needed, is patient, have confidence (enters a trade when criteria is met, isn't wishy-washy about it) yet doesn't let over-confidence lead to stubbornness (knowing when to exit a trade if in loss that is already past their percentage-loss/drawdown/etc. limit), doesn't let negative emotions cloud their rationale (ex: using revenge/anger to run a trade), and develop/possess skills of applying the best response/behavior to a situation when needed (ex: knowing when to apply aggressiveness to volality, applying caution with a news event, proper conservativeness with MM, having patience to wait for an advantageous setup, etc.)

So, for me, these aspects are much more important than just intelligence, because even an intelligent person can be an unsuccessful trader.

And which is why I feel, being a successful trader doesn't distinguish itself by gender either, but more by one's attitude/behavior/mindset and how one adapts and handles themselves with the movement of the PA, and of course, their astuteness with applying proper MM (which can be learned if not possessing these aspects innately, lol ).
