maybe the U.S. just needs more shittier numbers to boost currency

there were those who wanted to go long from the PPI and trade reports, but they were waiting for the sentiment number. also there were longs who wanted to add to position and they used the liquidity to get in. thats my take at least.

I said it a couple of weeks back and I say it again: Stay out of the market on fridays post lunch time (London time). Big players are known to close their positions before the weekend spiking the chart chaotically. Have a look at what happened on friday 30th of March by the end of London session. Today it has happened again.

Just between us. The numbers for USD are very nice in my opinion. Trade balance is the most important in this case if you ask me.

That's why GBP JPY went ballistic earlier ...

I agree with merlin - people were waiting for all the news for today and entered positions.

I like it, im long GBPJPY and AUDJPY.

i thought PPI X FOOD would be important cuz points to inflation

I was long since last week tuesday on GBPJPY. I opened AUDJPY today, before the movement...

Hi Rabax

I am very new to forex trading and hope to get some advices from you.
The trade balance and PPI data earlier are positive for US so it makes sense for GBP/USD to fall. But why the negative data on consumer sentiment leads to strengthening of the dollar (>50pips)? Or it is simply the bank hold higher regard to the trade balance as compare to PPI and consumer sentiment data so it goes bullish for the dollar???

And when USD bullish, why GBP/JPY and EUR/JPY are also bullish???

Highly appreciate for your advice.

Well... I'm not a "seasoned pro" either.

But my view of the matter is the following:

USA is less dependent on imports (most of which, of course come from Japan, China, etc.) - we all know that USA is pressuring China to let juan float freely and not keep it's value down by chinese government (increases chinese exports).

With smaller deficit in imports/exports, USA has less exposure to i.e. China, which is good for the dollar, also good for the dollar is a healthy PPI (we don't want it too healthy of course

Why everything started happening after Consumer sentiment being published - easy ppl waited to be sure, that nothing goes terribly wrong - I agree with Merlin on that 100%.

That's when the orders started going in.

Basically this not only means better dollar, but weaker YEN, hence GBP and EUR bullish in this pair... (and EUR, GBP and USD are very connected).

That's my opinion and view. Seems that many cashed in on the trades already (if we check the USDJPY and GBPJPY).

Look it makes perfect sense. The USD diden't go up on the news release. It happened after. The news had nothing to do with the USD going up. Look what happened to the USD during the week, it took a bath. It was time for a pull back.
