Summer time

What period is loosely defined as summer time for trading Forex?
I mean the time with low liquidity, volatile actions, or anything unusual.
I am guessing that when institutional money takes summer vacation would be such a time.. so it would be july to late august?

The old advice was 'Sell in May, go away, buy again on St Leger day'.

Whether this is still relevant remains to be seen. The end of July last year marked the beginning of what was probably the most volatile period in the history of the modern foreign exchange market. But these are extraordinary times. Your charts would have to go a long way back to find even a remotely similar scenario. My feeling is that the volatility will be here for some time yet.

while the "regulars" may run off to the island to play in the sun, they leave behind the 2nd and 3rd string and things can get a bit unruly so to speak.

someone may call it dull, but never hits me that way ---- if you can trade, summer provides all the thrills and spills, just hotter during the day !

Ahh the quiet solemn days of summer '07.. the quant fund implosions, the multi-thousand pip yen cross sell-offs, such easy laid back trading.

indeed, and thats just ONE year ---- sitting around the pool GULPING marguiritas and malox --- the joy of the restful summers !
