Good Friday NFP

Hello all,

I am just wondering if I have this right. Here in Australia, this friday is a holiday, being Good Friday (easter). I am assuming this would also be the case in the rest of the Western world.

So would NFP still be released this Friday, or would it be post-poned to next week? If it is this week, how would the fact that it is a public holiday affect the liquidity/trading?

If I am missing something, I am happy to be corrected.

I realise that. What I am curious about is that Good Friday would be a bank/public holiday in the wester world, so most offices, esp government ones would be closed, or so I would think so.

Unfortunately Jose' is no longer with us. His predictions were 12 out of 14 in predicting the NFP reports.

Yes, I was wondering that too. I also live in Australia, but from my travels and my handy diary, I know it is a holiday in the UK and Germany (probably most of Europe) - definitely not in Japan - and it looks like it is not a public holiday in the US either, which is very strange, given the level of religious fundamentalism there.
I imagine that it might be a bit like the thanksgiving holiday last year, when thin trading could make the market very, very volatile. I think I will be watching this on the sidelines - sort of like the surfing championships in Hawaii!

NFP is always a GOOD FRIDAY any month, any time, any year.

But honestly, NFP can indeed be a BLACK Friday - aka WHIPSAW day.
NFP has been always doing at least 50 pip of move. Last Month, GBPUSD did only as much as 40, and kept yoyo-ing for several times. EURUSD however kept moving in one direction.

Therefore, If straddling, do no do an OCO. If it whipsaws, your other order will be filled to make profit. OR, if it whipsaws, it usually will give you enough time to react manually.

You've got to be kidding me. He only made 3 calls on this forum; two of which were dead wrong. His claim of 12 out of 14 was just that, a claim.

as for NFP this friday, most brokers should remain open despite the holiday, so we can probably expect the usual fireworks

EUR/USD use ADP data for projections and place straddle order 10 min befor the announcemet. Friday shouldent be a really large move but it will be good

Placing an order ten minutes ahead of nfp will most probably result in a loser and maybe a winner, if not two losers.

10 seconds before news release should do. The pre news movement is pretty strong during npf minutes.

I guess i never noticed that things closed all the way down (if they did/do) on this particular Friday. I know the importance of the day in Christian circles, i just find it funny that the world likes to find just about any excuse it can to get a day off from work !!! Hehehe.

If you take a postion just prior to the NFP and you guess wrong-you will be in trouble because your "broker" will not honor your stop. Even if you guess right-if you look to close in that 1st minute or two-your "broker" probably will not fill that order either. Pressing the button to close then will result in the "broker" closing you at the opposite end of where you want to be if price whipsaws. (This may work once or twice but once your "broker" sees you're tryin to scalp the NFP-they'll burn you). Think they won't notice? What do you think interns are for?

Why do I put "broker" in parenthesis? Because they aren't your "broker"-they're your "trading adversary". If the kid who sat next to you in 4th grade was willing to trade his Mickey Mantle card for your Joe Schmuckowski-did u tell him he was making a bad trade? If you did you're a nice guy who's going to heaven, but you didn't grow up to be a forex "broker".

The only way you have a chance to win in that situation is to guess right-then hold it thru the re-trace and hope it comes out good a few minutes later. Make sure your cojones are strapped on tight, because you could see a 50 pip drawdown or more in seconds before it comes back. If your "broker" is really good-he'll let you stare at that for awhile before letting the price move again.

The revisions are a big part of this so only trade AFTER any revisions are announced. And BTW-with the revisions-if more then one period is revised you have to do the arithmatic and see if it adds or subtracts jobs from the entire period.

Let's say both the headline and revision numbers are positive. You still want to wait because price will likely retrace against this. You can try to get in at that point-you may get lucky but probably you won't get anywhere near your price. Many traders wait 3-5 minutes and trade with the numbers when those candles break. This can work out pretty well.

Some guys "trade the fade". Like anything else it takes practice but if you develop a feel for it, it can be effective.

I think the best pair to trade is the GBP/JPY-that's where some really big moves are. The GBP/JPY is mostly about risk-so strong numbers in the headline and revision indicate a long.

This Friday is Good Friday-so markets will be thin. That means less liquidity and higher volitility-if the prints are strong way or the other some big moves should be seen.

Best Trade: Headline and revision match-Long or Short accordingly
2nd: Headline neutral and revision up-Long
3rd: Headline neutral and revision down-Short
4th: Headline slightly down and revision up-Long
5th: Headline slightly up and revision down-Short

Anything else-I don't bother with...
