I need a mentor...read this and youll know why

As someone who has been a student AND a mentor, I can tell you very few people make it trading because of the same reason most people only check "some college" on job applications. It has to do with tenacity.

It sounds like you have the will, for now. But what if I offered to mentor you and said it would take 1-2 years before I thought you would be "where I would want to see you"? See, one of the first things I would do is try to access how you "see" markets. A lot of people seem to want to run, before they can crawl. If we don't know what makes you tick.....how can we make it work?

It really is odd to teach someone how to trade. It's kind of like teaching someone how to ride a bike. It's actually a simple thing to do, but try to explain how.

You would spent a ton of time on thinking, not just patterns, systems, etc. I have learned that most systems can work, if in the right hands. We would have to spend a lot of time on figuring your psychology, because this dictates what you are psychologically able to withstand.

I would venture to say that you are probably somewhat damaged at the moment due to the story you told.

Learning to trade is a massive undertaking for both parties involved. It's funny really, because now that I am profitable, I can't seem to remember how/why I was so excited by this in the first place....

As for scammers out there, there certainly are. However, some people actually like to teach as well. Read some postings around here, and the people that you should listen to in this place becomes pretty obvious with a little common sense.

I may be wrong, and at same time do not want to discourage you. I think you need to develop yourself your own way.

Reading through some of the thread here, you will find workable systems that you can combine , adapt or extract something out of it to form your weapon of trading.

There is nothing like doing it yourself and getting it right after wards.
Think of a child that is born, It took months before he or she crawls, then before walking , after rising and falling then he or she can run and after years , can even be the fastest man on earth.

Mentor? hope you can find a good one.

Making an announcement that you have $300k to burn will attract all sort of people, you ******!. Think about it for a second.

I know you maybe desperate, but step back, look around you. What you have is maybe more valuable than you have ever realize and it takes a great man to see that. That's why many will only feel bitter or regret after they lose their most valuable.

p/s: if you really have $300k, you can have a better option out there (not here). Don't ask me, do your own due diligent.

Like clockwork said, i too am inclined to think you're still somewhat affected by the story you told. If so, you'll need to overcome WHAT happened with that scam, but remember WHY it happened, this psychological "bruise" can impair you from performing ideally in the markets, so to start a new path, you need to put that aside and start a whole new approach. (consider it a reboot after an upgrade... )

Now, as for mentoring, it's difficult, the best traders and mentors aren't usually offering their services publicly, so anything coming off the internet should be always taken with caution.

Now you do have a whole wealth of information available to help you to go along. My humble suggestion is don't rush your way into this, take the necessary time to read about the basics(price action, s/r levels, trends, and psychological mindsets, etc), and then look for an "edge".

Above all, don't rush, keep looking, keep being tenacious.

G33maroon, I am desperate!!!! I will and have been reading everything I can get my hands on and follow a lot of threads here on ff... almost to the pnt of over load...

Here is one thing I know: If you want to do anything to the fullest extent; then find some one who has already done so successfully... why not? you will save your self so much aggravation and hopefully cut down on the wasted time. If I had not had my G-pa show me the tricks of my trade and then went on to apply those tricks and add my own; then i can surly tell you i would not have that business.. And it would be foolish for some one to see me and my company, observe, even spend a day with me and think that they could duplicate my company.


Maybe this is why 98% fail?? 50% small business never make it past 2yrs.


I was introduced to trading in a wierd way it was smoke and mirror. The comradmanship and trying to beat the market made me jump out of bed in the morning and get to that coffee shop to see what would happen that day.The greed and excitement got to me, But also in a wierd way trading got to me.. I feel determined to trade for a living.... And I will.


I have the personallity to trade, I feel prety conf. of that. I am quite aquainted with $ pressures and loss...

I however do not have the personallity to manage people. As my wife says I am too passive and to understanding .. bla bla bla. This i will also tell you, There is no hell like having to manage people in a stressfull business when you simply do not have the personality for it..

Totally agree on the mentoring part It takes a special person to even want to take time from being profitable to teach some one. I also feel that the market are just that, a feeling ,at times . how can that be taught??

First, your story went straight to my bones.

I can vouch for the replies from craig and clockwork. It's kinda sick, really. We are a small community of people - the forex traders of the world. And this forum is sortof a little family. I'm sure many would agree.

Now just because someone has been posting for several years or has a lot of posts doesn't mean much. But it tells you the determination of the individual. Several thousand sign up and "drop out" of this forum because they simply can't get it.... or are overwhelmed.... or whatever.

And as Chris (clockwork) said - it takes tenacity.

So, you demo traded an account from 50 to 500K 2 times in one summer? And then you choked and blew your live account? You might consider paying a programmer to code your method, and that way you can babysit the mechanical execution of the program.

I am personally a hardcore forex guy. I started 4 years ago not knowing a thing. Now I am clearing over six figures a year with my regular job, and am launching a trading company with an outside partner. (We are attempting to demonstrate forex trading as a lucrative venture.... not taking any outside money for now)

Usually you will find me wandering the threads and being somewhat of ass... that is what I do. Not in an unfriendly way, but more like "that won't work because....."

Was it trust that made you jump in so quickly, or was it really greed? Be honest with yourself.

Why use $300K when you can learn with $300? Are you still looking to get rich quick even after the hard lesson?

It's OK, we all do it, when we run the numbers and see that with 2 years of success and compouding we can be making ($ insert any number here $) per day. We dream of the life we can give our loved ones, and think of all the help we can give to others we don't even know.

But did your business start with no knowledge and go to success in a couple weeks? Or maybe it was an easy step into it because you were helped along?

Be very thankful for what you have now. How many people are liquid for $300 - 400K? You can put this in sound investments and live a great life and pass your buisness to your children or help them do whatever they want.

Most of America isn't liquid for $300 these days, much less $300,000.

I know what you mean by "feeling".....but I ignore those. They tend to get you into trouble.

Also, someone said something about trading only $300 at first. Are you willing to do that for 3 months? 6? Because that's what it would take in my opinion....

Trust me, there's a huge psychological difference between trading demo....$300 account....$2000 account....$10,000 account, etc.

You need to build up slowly.

on the other way, no matter how much you are willing to pay to a mentor, he will teach you how to read the market, when and how he would trade, and also, when and how he would not trade. That's great! But nobody in this world can teach how to feel while trading (not talking about trading psychology.... it's about self-knowledge)... This is up to you, and only you...

As CW said, your feeling trading demo, $300, $300000 accounts are completely different...

Clockwork71 is the one you can trust, given his expertise and most importantly his willing to help people. He gave me good advise last year, since then, I put a lot effort to follow his recommendation. now, I am in the stage of almost there, I meant I am in the stage of most time breakeven and very likely to move into consistently profitable trading Forex, at least, I think I am making my equity curve move upwards trading future contracts, though not elegantly yet.CW, thanks very much, and sorry for expressing my gratitude very late, but, I think it makes my expression more meaningful here. As I earlier stated, there is no way You can pay for Me for the mentoring, but You had the braveness to ask, and the luck(?) I accidentally came accross this forum, so I offer You this:

I will fund Your account (200USD), and You will trade with that, according to my teaching (not with my orders). You must know I am a discretionery trader, but with some strict rules.

BUT! Before I provide You the info and the acc. You must try to prove You are desperate enough!
First task: Get up every day 2 hours earlier before London Open (9am CET), watch the DEMO charts, and in the first hour take notes in word doc.: Monthly, Weekly, Daily, 4h, and 1h trends. Is there anything to watch? (Later, I will tell what to watch, and which pairs)
Between 8-11 CET, You can sell or buy if You think, it can be good. I Dont care the reasoning and the Time Frame(TF), now, just do if You think there is some reason to do it. Write down why, later we will discuss them.
Do it for at least 2 weeks in a row, and after, tell, weather You can do it, on the long time.
Second: contact Me.

Conditions: If You differ from a rule I set (simple rules, easy to check), and the acc. is in minus, You must pay in to the acc. to the starting balance. If the acc. is in positive, You must double it! (why to differ if it works)

So listen.. Stop what you are doing here (trading for a while..), go back and manage your business like there is no tomorrow (the economy is bad, yes.. but as an old friend of mine said, "when the "Gov" is determined to solve something, don't fight it because nothing can't be solve then").. and "if you are good enough", I am sure you will find gold (during turbulence times, there will be many millionaires are in the making).

Come back again in a year or two when you have more reserve (more than $300k to burn), you'll be a happy man.

The simple answer to the first question is, Yes absolutely greed.. think about it i saw this guy doing it every time i was with him, he made it seem so easy...
I chased him and that is why I had a hard time with the let down, but I had moments where the old "if sounds to good to be true, probably is" keep coming up in my head... Looking around and asking my self why dont all these people know about this.... I even asked my account rep @ fxsolutions why he would be working there when he could be doing this.... to me, at the time it just seemed that this was a no brainer (its embarrasing but I was that niave) what made me niave??? Greed!!!!!


why 300000usd instead of 300usd.... Time, I do realize one needs to be profitable in demo and small live accnt. first... but one of the reasons I blew the 20000usd was impatients... I started off with only the best trades and won very small amnts.. took like 4-6 hrs to gain 25-60 pips, well , @ 1 mini lot that was less than min wage....


My company will be sold in mid june, the deal is done... I do have a business plan, and the first thing on the list is to find a mentor, or a solid group to interreact with on a personal level. I feel it is so improtant... remember I know there are no free lunches or that a mentor is a one stop fixall problems instant success to trading for a living, to me just one of the steps

I will do everthing you ask of me, there is no doubt of my drive and work ethic. I dont want the money , as matter of fact Ill start the account, after i have done what you want for me to do. Its like i told some one earlier If my mentor says, " read this book on phycology, and this book on statistics, and this book on the history of currency, etc. etc... then I will.... What is killing me is , random reading and learning makes me feel like I am just spinning a bottle and heading in that direction....

t2l&l2t the solution is yourself. You must invest not into the markets at this point but into yourself. This takes time, much more time then you might ever think it takes.
My belief is that you are trying to find a mentor and someone you can trust because the first time didn't work out, so your mind is actually looking for something to substitute your previous experience...
To become a profitable trader there is no secret that anyone of us can teach you unless you find and learn by your own doings.

This is all about falling and getting back up just as someone on this thread already mentioned "riding a bycicle", it cannot be explained yet is something learned automatically due to failure.

My suggestion is that you grind on your own. You state you have the mental strength to be a trader. If this was true, you wouldn't have paniced and blown 20k.

Take the hard knocks, its what you need. Theres no free lunch, and the best mentor is the one who makes you look for answers, rather than giving you them.

Develop your own trading plan/strategy etc. Brainstorm yourself, and prove yourself wrong. If you cannot do that, you do not belong in trading.

After the hard knocks are done you will sit there and ask "why the hell was I asking for a mentor, exposing my $ value and soliciting help from what could be described as a place riddled with greedy amateurs. The pros on this board I am sure will not have the time or patience to be mentoring you in the way you ask.

I was 'mentored' by a guy in london, and all he did was come down on me like a tonne of bricks for my mistakes, gave no praise, no hints, no edges. Threw me to the sharks hoping that I could swim. And it worked.

Best advice anyone will ever give you is, get burned first. If you are still around after that, you are a trader.
