What would be great is if Nanningbob or someone could code an adjustable global equity closure that closes all trades that stops all trading. I think it does have one, but it starts opening trades right away after it is hit. This would prevent disaster if the markets were to go crazy.

Account sentry does this, you just have to add a couple of lines of code to be beginning of the 60x90 ea's to have it control them.

By the way, the 4 level g/j trades I left open over the weekend gapped down and closed them all out for me today, sweet!

Thanks for the soap box. I was fully aware of the risks in doing so, and it was not part of my testing. Was simply an observation that it had worked out.

Soap box? I wasn't lecturing you and I'm glad that it was for your observation. I was just commenting for new people joining the thread, not everyone has the knowledge and know how that you or some others might have.

That makes sense. Now I understand. I like it. It's a more advanced techinque in using this EA. How do you determine that a clear reversal has taken place? Are you looking at some other indicator or moving average?

Sorry Verto, I took it the wrong way obviously

But yeah, I guess I forget that there may be a few stragglers around that do not know the risks of keeping a trade open over the weekend. The gaps are scarey regardless of how much room you think you have from your entry.

no indicators to do that just gut feeling. I think you now what I am talking about when a news story spides up and then starts coming back down quickly. It is a best guess or you may know something about that news story. Also if you are far away from the MA median it is expected to come back to the Median. For example the Aud/nzd will usually only move 100-150 pips in one direction and retrace. If it spiked to lets say 180-200, it is in your favor that it will spike back down. To me trading is getting the best odds in your corner and then make the trade. A spike out of normal range is pretty good odds. Just make sure you protect your already exising profit so as not to lose it. That is a traders self image killer. To be up pips and then let that winning trade become a loser.

Have made it through the whole thread. Took some notes and thought a bit, too. A question: could one approach this model the same way as Vegas card-counting? That is to say, when people count cards in Vegas, they wait and wait and wait to play until the deck is stacked in their favor. Here, too, wait and wait to trade until a pair has made a >500 point move without a 60 pip retracement. Once that happens, it most likely (though you never know) won't make such a move again anytime soon and it will be fairly safe to martingale the positions to 3-4 progressions.

i like what i hear....

only i would also add a time element - a 500 pip drop within 2 days without a 60 pip retracement, or something like that.

very smart, nanningbob. i use a similar strategy myself, but on smaller timeframes. i never thought to do something so large scale.

In reality the number of trouble trades have been small and not earthshaking. When I have taken a loss it has come out of my profits not my original funds. Also they usually show up the 2nd or 3rd day and then the trade usually just misses the 60 pip retrace. Now that is the real key, you see it approaching you have a very small loss or profit and you go hmmmmmmmm should I or shouldnt I and then you come back and the gbp/chf has done you in. @^#$@$%@!^#* So again, no matter what system you use you will face losses at some point. I see no way of avoiding that, its how few of these can I get by on and limiting them to as small as possible. Every losing trade i have seen places I could have gotten out but didnt take it. Of course if I could just see the future .......................

Lenoxer, I think when you find these situations, you would have a high degree of success, barring any news event that caused the rise or drop. In moving my starting point further away, I do something similar. Not 500. But from 110 to 160 away from the 80 MA. I get far fewer trades this way but I believe I have a better chance of retrace.

I like your idea of entering a trade a bit further away from the MA. Which setting in the EA allow me to do that???

You have to right click the EA, and click "modify". That brings you to the various settings. You want to change the "extern int iEntry" from 90 to whatever amount of pips away from center you want that particylar pair to trade at. In the case below in RED, it's changed from 90 to 160.

After that, scroll down almost to the very end of the EA, and there's two more settings to change. One is the distance away on buys, and the other on sells. Naturally, you need to also change both of them from 90 to 160

The settings I use for the various pairs are on a previous page. If you want, I can email them to you. I don't get many trades, but the ones I get, I like a lot! Not to say I still wouldn't get stopped out. But, I'm getting in at what I see are bargain prices.

hey paradoxical, the extern int iEntry = 160 was so you could put iEntry at the bottom and not the 160. If you change it at the bottom anyway there is no need for that line at the top as I created it so it can easily be changed once.

OK, thanks, llambert. BTW, haven't had any trades with my settings for the past few days. Will give it another week or so to see if I have to tweak any of the distances. Today is slow anyway with most people getting the day off in the U.S.

mine got in the GU with the sunday gap (as you may know I am just letting mine run forever) and is out, so one trade only.

I've added the usd/chf and eur/chf with your settings. They worked great since August. I've changed aud/nzd to 4L on 15m with 140 on both initial and each after with a 600 pip loss.

Seems like some of these guys were getting about $50/day on some EA of bob's.. I've read most of the aud/nzd thread in the rookie. Not sure if it was at a penny a lot though. I'd like to get something like that a shot too, but I am confused with so many EA's going around.

yeh its been slow past week, however i think it would be wrong to move the settings too much, i based my settings on past 4 months
