Here are the results of me IBFX demo running since 1st of February. OOTB on 22 pairs starting with .01 lots and $3000 opening balance. I still running with GBPCHF which is the only overall loser.
Have not attempted to use Recovery EA yet...

Have attached Demo statement and Excel files

Will watch a couple more weeks, but very happy with overall results.

Hi everyone,
I used the strategy tester in order to check this strategy. I tested different settings that were shown on this thread. I never was profitable when started checking from beginning of 2008. What would be the reason in your opinion? The fact to not turning off on friday and news times? the fact of the hardly difficult year in 2008? The reliance on the strategy tester? or others??
what are your opinions???

the only relevant testing ever is forward testing....

bit of a move on the GBP, jsut touched my first level... i feel very comfortable handling these moves now...

Hi all,

Below are my results so far. I am using the 3-level EAs. I do not use recovery EAs. I trade the following pairs: 5m GBPUSD; 15m EUR/JPY; 15m EUR/USD; 15m USD/CHF; 30m USD/JPY. I trade only these pairs as they are succeptible to retraces rather than long one way movements. They are pretty safe for me.

I trade an account with 0.1 minimal lot, which equals to 1 USD (with E/U and g/u). I do not keep the experts open all the time. I follow the progress and am ready to react to adverse conditions at any time the experts are running. The results:

This is impressive. Are these net trades? You don't show any losses on the trades that went more than 1 level. Thanks for posting.

You can trust the strategy tester sometimes if the code is simple. I have done it before on a system I traded live for one year and decided to code to check and it was spot on to the pip I gained and every single trade matched. But I can also tell you that some EA's look to be coded correctly and the tester just doesn't work. I think if the EA calls an indicator it gets tricked. But, I think that this EA works in the tester, at least the last 3 months. One way you can double-check is manually checking what the tester did. The numbers as presented do have some losses and it affects the performance if you run it 24/5, but news and friday's the tester won't know..

Hi Newera,

There were no losses as I did not run the EA non-stop all the time. When I spot a strong movement in the favourable direction, I manually keep the original Limit for Level 1 positions, so they close in profit.

Strategy testers are not only inaccurate, they give you false readings of what the EA really does. All you have to do is run the EA live for 1 month and then run a strategy tester for the same month and the results will be different. Also the more back in time you go the more inaccurate a strategy tester is. Why?? Because the farther back in time you go the higher the time frame the strategy tester uses to get its info. by the time you get to 30M or 1H charts the tester will miss the very retrace you needed to take the profit. Also weekend gaps will mess up the EA and what you may think is a big huge loss was nothing more than a weekend gap and WE DONT TRADE WEEKEND GAPS. So the strategy tester is a waste of time except to show you that the EA works.

To the guy who set the Aud/Nzd at 200 pips because of information he got from the strategy tester. If you check the years high and low it only moved just over 1000 pips for the year. That means if you set your entrance at 200 you made it impossible for the EA to trade. I hope you realize and everyone else who just read this why strategy testers are a waste of time for the most part. They are in accurate, they dont follow the rules of trading, they use higher and higher time frames as you go back in time thereby giving you bad data. The reason you see my EAs have success is I dont use that data, I only use live data. The 7 year currency fact sheet is far more valuable than anything a back tester will give you. I hope this helps you guys but once you realize this, how many EAs have been developed that are thrown in the trash because of backtest results but in real life would actually work??????? Check the high and low for the year on the aud/nzd and see 200 would never work for that pair. Yet you did that because of the strategy tester. I hope this helps.

Great work. Now that is useful information and very specific, live trades are very convincing.

My computer is in the shop so I wont be posting any results until I get it back. I am getting 4G of ram and a dual processor put in. I havent had freezing problems but when I run 8 MT4s at once I was slowing down my computer. I think I will eliminate that problem now. This is getting exciting. I just had my third week in a row of profit, nothing truly spectacular with the highest setting live at 3 cents but its great to see the money. Couple more weeks of provable income and we will be talking of more serious money being put on these accounts.

I will run one of my live accounts the way Roger set his up. I was thinking of testing a similar group of currencies but since he has a working group, I dont have to do that work now. Thanks Roger for your input. I hope your testing makes me money now.

Still not sure that I am following you. If a trade goes to level 2, you should still have a small loss on the 1st level trade. If the trade goes to level 3, you should have a small loss on the level 1 and level 2 trades. Unless I'm totally missing something about this strategy. The $500+ profit on the Eur/Jpy trade had to have gone more than 1 level, right?

The guy was me, the same guy that says a strategy tester CAN work. Most often it DOES NOT, just like you say. The longer time period the less accurate. January 13, 2009 06:00GMT candle on 1hr timeframe... 80ma value 1.1885, the high on aud/nzd 1.2086, 201 pips. Why would say it would never work? It just didn't get in many trades and never went to the stop. Maybe you mean that it isn't worth trading it that way as no real income can come from it, but it can and does work, so I respectfully disagree. I was only trying to help out in some testing, but I see that you don't want that in this thread. Good day.

One more strategy tester for you. I once came up with and EA that showed a 90% win rate on a strategy tester. I put it on a live demo account and it was really around 60% and lost money. Sorry guys but I dont trust the info. from those things especially with any type of multi entry EAs. I just havent found the info accurate.

I dont really know you, and have never met you. It is not a personal thing so dont take it that way. It is my view of strategy testers. Also it gives me a chance to teach about how those things are from years of research. I have printed out the result sheets of those things and spent hours going over each trade and then going to the chart they refer to where the so called closed happen for a loss. On the day they said was a loss there would be retraces for profit on lower time frames but not seen by the tester. So you are free to disagree but dont ever take it personal. I am only talking about the subject matter not the person or his work. So please accept my apology.

If you turn the EA off. Each trade will then go to each TP level. If you are there to monitor the trade and you think there has been a clear reversal you can do that and increase your profit. It is a much more hands on approach to using the EA. Not a bad idea if you are there to monitor the trade. I am sure a good experience trader can successfully do that. I will do this when I see a quick spike up and then it quickly starts falling I will take the TP off and put a trailing stop to see if I can get more pips on the trade. I also put a SL on to protect my profit so I dont lose it. Also once you turn the EA off you can close 1/2 of the profit and continue the trade to see how much more you can get. Just some trading thoughts.

What about strategy testing for 3 months back, and then going back visually on the charts to confirm or not whether you would have been stopped out on 12-17 or 12-18 or in January like the strategy tester shows, and making your entry level decisions that way? This is how I did it. Someone posted a chart for the EUR/USD that showed there would have been one or two stops in December. That was true at 90 PIPS away. But moving the entry further out, you wouldn't have been stopped. How far out for each pair is the question. As it is now, those entering at 90 away are gaining the pips whereas I'm not even getting any entries. That's the trade off. As Whitegoodman said, the only accurate test is a forward test, so the only way to know if going further out is better over the long haul is to compare LIVE trading under both scenarios for about the next 12 months.

If you go back and look at every trade that is feasible, however, if you live trade and you start at a different time than the tester, in other words, your start time is different your live results and backtest results will be different. One of the reasons I only test on IBFX is I found that each companies MT4 can be different. I was getting all sorts of different data so to standardize it so I could compare accurately, I can run this on one companies demo and also on anothers and get some significant results. A back tester does not give you internet slowdowns and downtimes, server problems, etc. etc. The biggest problem I see with backtests right now is the constantly increasing and decreasing of spreads. There are just too many variables. My system relys on that retracement, as soon as a backtest doesnt give you that retracement for profit all trades after that point are useless information. They would not be true to life situation. The only accurate readings I have ever gotten on those things is very recent maybe the last 2 or 3 weeks and using only the 1M or 5M. After that I see a divergance of data and it gets worse the farther you get. My viewpoint is from months and months of live data I got from testing and live trading my 100x40 and then comparing it to strategy tests. They werent even close as we added time to the backtest. I use eyeball backtests using the crosshairs tool of MT4. Even then that can be inaccurate because of the widening spreads commonly used by companies now.

If you remember my arguement with IBFX with the GBP/NZD trade. That showed as a TP profit with my eyeball test and strategy tester but I didnt get it because of spread widening, so you get a general idea at best but not accuracy. As soon as one trade is wrong every trade after that is wrong because it would not be what happened in real life.

Hi Newera,

You have understood the strategy perfectly well. Some of these Level 1 positions should have closed in loss on the Limit of the Level 2 positions. My point is that I have done these strategy semi-automatic as I follow the price action and if it is favourable I let my Level 1 positions to run back to their original Limit.

My results from today:

13/02/09 – GBP/USD +180.00 USD
13/02/09 – GBP/USD - 32.00 USD
13/02/09 – EUR/JPY + 196.96 USD
13/02/09 – EUR/JPY - 32.82 USD
