trying to work on gbp/chf and it just isn't cooperating. I think I can get it to work by moving the stop up higher, which I know works, but there must be some sort of built in max loss as it is stopping out too early and the trade would've won if it did not. Do you know anything about this paradoxical?

Bob,

How did you arrive at three or four levels? Why not two? Or just one? The vast majority of trades last week completed at level one, and the ones that closed at level three didn't compensate for the ones I stopped out on. With less risk, you could increase lot size and/or trade more pairs.

Many small winner and few big losing trade. It means that u win most of the time, but when it lose, it's gonna be big and it might just blow up ur account if u don't have enough margin. U cannot win all the time.
jthomas71, read the above and u will know why level three didn't compensate for the ones u stopped out. If u get stop out too often and all your small win didn't cover the loss, something is wrong becoz range trading are not suppose to lose too often

you need to change the variances right at the bottom of the code...variance TF, MA and pips away from MA...

Yup I agree, that is why I developed this system. I threw a basic format up instead of trying a bunch of things out first. I knew most of you would try things and share. Just think of the 60x90 as a basic car model with no AC, carpet, etc. You guys help me find the leather interior, am/fm/cd stereo, power windows and power doors, sun roof, etc. In return I will make more money and you will also. I look at this as a shared project, I just took other peoples ideas and put them together. I told you where I got some of them and your imaginations and trading skills will help find the rest. I am trying out a 5M system that should only go 2 levels deep most of the time. If it works and does well over a reasonable testing period I will post it. I even have one currency on a 4H chart. So my mind is all over the place on this. Good luck, I believe in time we will have an optimal system.

Hi guys,
when you say don't trade big news
Do you mean, turn off the EA on that pair or turn off and close off trades on that pair?

e.g. news on CAD, today at 9:15am

That is not what I mean by a big news story. A big news story is one that will push all or most of the currencies to the edges of you EA. 700 Billion dollars bailouts, major interest rate changes, record unemployment numbers, someone dropping a bomb, GM filing bankruptcy. Stuff like that. A housing report may push 50-150 pips but well within the range of these EAs.

yeh keep your ear about big stuff in the US and Europe, interest rates and unemployment figures are the other big ones...

however a business confidence for NZD ruined a few of us a while ago because it was so significantly bad... i jsut do all the red ones as a rule of thumb and switch them on 20mins later...

Hi people..
everythig was nice tonight and continue system to run from last monday...but at 12.00 today the famous gbp-chf kill all produce during this night..
nothing was possible to do cause was open position from thusday..not friday...

What?
Thr. is even worse... You should be closing trades out friday morning ASAP.

Holding trades over the weekend is a very bad idea, especially with this system.

As you get closer to the end of the week, thr to friday morning, I start turning off EAs and closing them out when I get a near profit retrace.

well here is what I am testing:

Eur/Usd - 3L 15m 1601st, 90after, 500stop
Eur/Jpy - 4L 15m 1901st, 110after, 1000stop
Aud/Nzd - 3L 1hr 2001st, 90after, 500 stop
Gbp/Usd - 4L 5m 1601st, 110after, 800 stop
Usd/Jpy - 3L 30m 1601st, 90after, 500 stop

The above is just what worked from August 2008 to now, not that others won't. I think given the moves last 1/2 of 2008, if any numbers prevent disaster it should work most any other time. The only thing is that it prevents a lot of trades too. Since 6pm est. Sunday only 1 trade on Eur/Jpy and it was a winner.

I give up on gbp/chf. Not sure there are any numbers that will work.

Yeah but the EAs we run on that one are 150-200 pip ranges. These cover over 700 quite a difference. Different thread that one.

i thought about closing EAs if friday getting nearer. or if the recovery made profit. a StopAfterClose option would be usefull. it means everytime a level was closed by TP the EA should switch into halt-mode and no new orders open. would this make sense? i think, yes.

2pm EST Bernanke speaks before congress. If he says anything big the markets will go nuts. I would not trade at that time.

The two big events of Oct. were the bailout news and the interest rate news stories and it would have been easier to just not trade rather than make it so wide you get very few trades. One happened on Monday after the bailout story came out. You do not trade on Monday if there is a big breaking story over the weekend. The other story happened FRiday during the USA session and we dont trade that. I do not figure those two days in whenever I set up my charts. Those were easily avoidable days with a little common sense.

Well that's the great thing about it I guess. One EA can be run like this and not worry about any news and just let the trades happen and then another can be run during normal events like you suggest. I looked at Eur/Jpy and it hit the stop way too many times using the 90 pip...but I did look at the days they happened and it was either an interest rate statement day, Friday, or the US Presidential Election.. I suppose though any red event on FF calendar can produce drastic moves when volatility is already high as last year was.

Another idea I suppose is to use the 90 rule but set a smaller stop and if it hits just be done with that currency until it corrects itself.
