Hi David......I have just discovered and read your excellent post for help with navigating the MT4 platform, which lists certain features that are not readily obvious from the very comprehensive tutorial. The info contained in your post provides a tremendous shortcut to mastering the platform quickly to anyone unfamiliar with it. Thank you for sharing.

I have downloaded the MT4 software, set up my charts and generally played around with it and so far no problems. However, there are four items that you (or anyone else reading this post) may be able to shed some light on:-

i) Is it possible to increase the point size of the vertical price readout at right hand side of chart?

ii) The 4 Toolbars I have set up at the top of charting will automatically open up and appear on each chart I switch to. However, after closing the program and restarting, the Toolbars are missing, so do you know of any way of setting them to remain there and appear every time by default?

iii) Is there any way of getting the crosshair to permanently stay on, even after clicking on the chart. When manually backtesting, you are constantly clicking and dragging, either to scroll (which can be done via keyboard), or point-to-point for price and pips readout etc. The way the software is written, each click of the chart cancels the crosshair, which then requires reactivating each time and can be quite annoying.

iv) Can time be set to EST? as it is currently 7hrs ahead.

I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

piccolo.....thanks for your reply. Are you saying NO that you cannot shed any light on my questions or NO that you know for sure the 4 items I list are fixed and cannot be changed?

Hi Johnny

Sorry about the delayed response, I just noticed your post.

I’m by no means an MT4 expert. The features I noted in the other post are simply the result of trial and error.

As far as I know, the answers to your questions are:

i) I’m not aware of any way of changing the font size, assuming that’s what you mean.

ii) As far as I can tell, the customized toolbars that I’ve created on my system remain sticky, across all profiles, templates, currency pairs and timeframes. I’m not aware of any reason why yours shouldn’t also.

iii) Yes, this is frustrating. I simply click my mouse wheel to turn the crosshair back on. With a little practice this becomes instinctive.

iv) I’m not sure how the time zone works, and am not aware of any way of changing it. Mine seems to be set to Greenwich Mean Time, which I’ve grown accustomed to. It should be possible to write an indicator/script to display a second set of dates/times on the charts as text labels (not an elegant solution, as it would still leave the original horizontal axis values there also).

Sorry, I’m afraid I’m not much help.

David

Hi David,

Thank you for your post. I have a copy of your MT4 shortcuts etc post on my desk, which I use almost daily.

The MT4 is a good trading platform, but lacks a few small refinements, a few of which I have listed. I have solved the quirk with the disappearing toolbar. If I shutdown with several items displayed in the window, such as charts, market watch, navigator, order etc, it it is ok and reopens with all 4 toolbars displayed. However, when I shutdown with just a maximized chart in the window, the toolbars are missing when I reopen.

I don't know if this is unique to my setup or whether anyone else experiences it, but not that it matters, as I now know how to overcome and avoid the little annoyance.

Thanks again,

johnny
