Market reaction to the FOMC statement is likely to be driven by whatever mention is made of quantitative easing...Quantitative easing (QE) is basically flooding the economy with liquidity (printing cash) and may include the buying of assets (Treasuries) in an effort to prevent deflations and stimulate economic activity. If the Fed statement refers to QE and explicitly mentions buying assets, the feeling is it will be asset market positive, likely seeing stocks and bonds both rally and the USD likely decline. No mention or less direct mention of QE would be seen as a disappointment and would likely see asset markets relapse, potentially sending the USD higher. The Fed might use terms such as 'extraordinary liquidity measures' or 'direct asset purchases' in place of QE.
