Hi everybody,

after formatting my hard disk and reinstalling Windows Vista, i re-opened 2 demo account with Broco trader and Fxpro, both of them with MT4 platform.

After that I copied my preferred custom indicators to the respective /expert/indicators folders, but when I tried to attach them to my chart they did not work. In fact in the indicators window they appear correctly, but they don't show off on the charts

So i checked the /expert/indicators folders again and I noticed this weird thing: there are 2 files for each indicator, one .mq4 and one .ex4 type, but for my custom indicators only the .mq4 file is present

I think that's the reason why they don't work, but why is that? And how do I make them work?

Thanx, but that did not work, as my Vista settings are correct according to the post linked.

Basically, MT4 cannot compile my .mq4 files into .ex4, and when I try to manually compile them with MetaEditor I see the string "Compiling myindicator.mq4"... in the Toolbox
but nothing happens next, and that's even if I run MetaEditor as administrator

I am really clueless

in editor, select all the code, copy, create a new indicator, paste the code in there, then compile

iv had this same problem, not sure what causes it
but the above solution works

if youd like to use the same indy names, put the old indies in a new folder before proceeding

FIXED

Solution is to install MT4 not inside the Program Files folder,
eg C:\Metatrader4 is OK
but C:\Program Files\MetaTrader4 is not.

I found this solution searching the posts on the factory.

For Trendchaser: thanx for reply, but your trick did not work either, as it turned out that root of the problem is Vista not liking to touch files in the "program files" folder. Your help has been much appreciated though

Does it work for ex4 files also? coz i have two .ex4 indicators, but not the .mq4 version
AND so, can't open them to get the code and rerite it into .mq4 like said in the post above.
