Is Trailing stop set on the Server or on Client terminal?

Folks,
Quick question. If i put a trailing stop on an order and then lose connection to the MT server, does the Trailing stop register on the server like your SL & TP points? I am sure it is registered only on the Client and once connection to server is lost , it has no way of functioning.

Any thoughts?

That's correct, if you use MT4, and lose connection, the trailing stops have no way of being updated.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I think this needs clarifying.

Let say I buy at 1.21050 with a 20 pip trailing stop. price then moves to 1.21090 so my trailing stop is at 1.21070. Easy so far...

If I lost connection to the server do I still have a stop order entered at 1.21070? Or do I have no stop order at all?

I can live with it if the trailing stop doesn't keep updating the order if the price continues to increase but if the actual order itself resides client side then you lose your protection!

If that's the case would you have a normal stop as a backup in addition to your trailing stop? Can you even do that? I've tried setting a stop then setting a trailing stop but I can't tell if the original stop is still in place.
The trailing stop is a client-side mechanism that updates the SL which is a server-side mechanism. The trailing stop on MT4 merely updates the stop loss after the first move in your favor.

So, for example, let's say you have a long position in the GBPUSD at 1.9300 and a trailing stop set for 5 pip trails. Once the price moves 5 pips to 1.9305, your trailing stop on MT4 sets the SL of that long order to 1.9300. Let's say at that point you lose your connection and the price moves 100 pips in your favor...well, your SL is still at 1.9300. So, if the price were to keep going in your favor, then no big deal, but if the price comes all the way back down to 1.9300, you'll get stopped out automatically since the SL resides on the server.

Min Trailing stop is 15pips,is it possible lower it?

The answer is YES, you do have a stop (at least, if you use interbank, this is true. I'd assume other MT platforms are the same, to be on the safe side), but only because the order went in your direction by the t/s amount +1.

THE point is, had you opened that position, set the 20 pip t/s, and the price did not go up more than 21 pips, you would not have ANY stop order in place.

You must first set a normal stop. Then add the trailing stop.

Minimum trail is set by the broker.

I have a MT indicator that is supposed to show current day high and current day low but it doesn't work correctly. Does anyone have one that works correctly (currently the one I have shows high and low of each 5 min bar)?
