I am going into the IBFX contest this next month but this time I am going to use an EA I developed just for the AUD/NZD. This little puppy seems to make decent money. I will let you know how it goes. If it continues to complete its test run I will post it next week.

Yes, as Toyoproxo mentioned I also saw a huge 1000 pip move on the EURJPY during the US session yesterday. I was still including it in Bob's small selected group on the 100+40 expert account. It created a -$4000 draw down. I was just about ready to start trading a live account but now wonder if I'll need to wait a month, (a year?) for these markets to normalize.

No I close down every day when I see profit. I think the market is too volatile to trade the USA session especially the later afternoon runs. That is probably where you are getting into trouble. I wouldnt trade the EUR/jpy it has been going out of range for the last 3 weeks. I dropped that one the first week the volatility started.

I am starting to feel the same way. I got off work and was home at 7am pst. At that time my account was down but it was the not that bad. I was break even since Sunday. I was thinking if this was a live account I would close out all trades and restarted. I wanted to see what would happen if I let it run. Well my equity was approximately $2,600 when I went bed but was only $1,650 when I woke up at 3 pm pst. The eur/jpy kept going way up. This has definitely becoming a learning experience. I have found I am no where near ready to run this live. I am in no hurry as I have lost a lot in forex in the past.

Leo, if you go with the slowest moving currencies right now they seem to be staying in range. I am having success with them right now. However, this is a bad time to try to go live. This little aud/nzd EA is working for me live and the 100/40 on the 8 slowest currencies is working so far but everything else is off the table.

I also am working on the math where it is more profitable with the lower levels (where the majority of trades are) and less profitable with the higher levels. In other words level 1 is .05 but level 13 is .75 not a dollar or two. This allows you to cut out of trades you dont like faster and work with the slower moving currencies in an acceptable profitable way.

So level one trades make 5.00 instead of 1.00 and level 8 trades make very little but get you out of a bad situation. You are more willing to kill a trade knowing it wont take all day to recover. yesterday on one account I killed 3 trades between 20-30 dollars but because the lower levels were much more profitable they were overcome in a matter of hours and the whole day was profitable. I am trying to keep my total negative at less than 100 dollars so I never have to face the big drawdown day. For instance trading the 8 slow currencies, I still made over 100 dollars for the day but my drawdown was much lower than normal. I tried to see how it would work trading the high flying pairs but that bombed out so now I am seeing how it does with the slow pairs. So far so good. If my testing works out I may start a new thread for them so we dont confuse everyone using the 100 40 here. The math is all different but follows the basics of the 100/40.

I'm sure you've tried this angle with the 100/40. Trade one slow mover with higher lot size. I've been trading the EUR/USD 15 levels .05 lots since Sunday night, no shutdowns. I'm up$366 this morning. I did have an 18% drawdown yesterday. I'd probably only trade .01 or .02 with real money. Doing backtests on the E/U (not including weekends and with no slippage) over the last ten months, it never went any deeper than 10 levels. I know this isn't all that acurate but gives you an idea of what to expect.

I was wondering if they could even be set up to absorb the biggest ever move and at say level 10-13 it returns a small loss, but up front you Know that will hardly ever happen and when it does you take the loss and move on. I guess there is that on going desire to make it fully auto........might be asking too much of the math.

Actually it works until you come across a death trade scenario and you take the big hit. It could wipe out a week's worth of profit and then you might not pull the trigger to get out and the problem gets worse. The reason I use multiple currencies is to make any loss smaller and other currencies to help off set it. Then you can recover in a day or so. It is a philosophical position I have taken. There is nothing to stop you from trading just one currency but the only problem I see doing that is you will face a death trade and it will be a whopper when you do. So from a purely philosophical point I chose multiple currencies to lessen my loss both because of lot size and other currencies helping to off set it. It wasnt until 3 weeks ago that I ever came across more than one death trade in one evening, in fact 2 or 3 in one week was probably the record. But with the market moves of the last 3 weeks there were times I was facing 4 in one night. Its a different world out there. Anyway that is why I choose to do it that way. Now if you really want to trade 1 currency with high lots. I would choose a slow currency that is almost guarenteed of not going out of range and try it. I am sort of doing that successfully with the Aud/nzd right now in a test. The Eur/USD maybe a good pair to try it with. Good luck.

I am playing with a 100x100, 1000 pip range, and the first thing I had to get rid of were several currency pairs, like the gbp/jpy and eur/aud and several others. They cleaned out my demo account in one day. Once I got rid of those pairs the returns look very nice and profitable. Needs some good margin though. If it survives the rest of the week I may post it to allow some of you to play with it.

The new math allows me to use multiplication level of 1.2 and 1.3. This allows many more levels and greater range plus larger starting lots. It looks promising so far with certain currencies. If I can safely trade a 500 pip range, that puts me in the ballpark of 10-12 currency pairs and make some decent money. The higher levels are guaranteed losses but they are less than a 100 dollars and the constant popping of 5-30 bucks every 100 pips well it adds up quickly. I am also working on a different kind of indicator that will warn you of trouble coming in advance and your able to close out before you get into serious trouble. It really looks promising but I have to adjust some of the numbers first and then fit the right currencies into it.

I have a close current and pending orders script. I use it at 3 different times during the day eliminating 3 deep levels or when more than have of the pairs are in the level 2.

But my script closes ALL pairs that i trade instead of the pair i'm applying it too.

Does anyone have a script that isolates the pair and just close those trades and leave the rest?

I have just opened a new demo with Alpari. And for some reason I'm getting an extra position after the decimal point, in other words my charts are showing tenths of a pip. Which means a 100 pip move appears as 1000 pips. Gave me a heck of a shock to start with, seeing the Eur/GBP had moved through 1170 pips in an afternoon. Anyway the question is, is there anyway to get rid of the extra zero.

OK guys, here is my newest EA 100x80 playing with an 800 pip range. NO Gbp/jpy and other big movers. I started a new thread with this and it should be exciting. I made over 4500 on a demo using .05 but I toned it down to .01 for public consumption. Go here:

Changes to pricing policy: an additional decimal place 6th October

We are pleased to announce that we have made improvements to our pricing policy which enables us to quote all currency pairs to an additional decimal place.
This means that all JPY pairs will be quoted to 3 decimals and all other pairs to 5 decimals.
This has been made possible by improved prices that we are now receiving from our liquidity providers and should enable us in the nearest future to reduce our normal spreads in some pairs to our client base.
We recommend that you download the latest MetaTrader version (build 218) as the developers have improved usability of bid/ask quote in the Order window to reflect the changes.
For demo accounts the changes will be effective from October 12th 2008 with a view to introducing this feature for all live clients on October 19th 2008.

This could be interesting. I wonder if I could use a multiplication factor of 1.35 in my formulas instead of the 1.3 or 1.4 I do with IBFX. hmmmmmmmm

Here is the same setup I use on my live account. Put Both templates in the first template folder. I use the blank templates on currencies that are not between the white lines. I change this when they meet that qualification. Put close all in script folder. Put 100-40 EA in experts folder. Put PB autopivots in indicators folder. Put 100 40 folder in the profile folder and you should be ready to go. The profile includes the 8 currencies I trade with at this time. You will be using the same screen I use.
