this was monday's close of NY session leading into aussie. if i got involved in this market using the bands, i think i might have gotten really creamed. here's how it could have played out using plain ole' sentiment & momentum analysis:
- 3-bar price action pattern signaling a long; however, bearish sentiment, but ADX crossover & t/f the break of the high of the 3rd bar would confirm the entry; finger on the trigger on this w/o getting carried away past the upper MA (4hr); at least 5 pips on 1/2 & break even on the other 1/2
- small bullish pin-ish bar in bearish sentiment, but still playing off the recent ADX crossover ... trading this very conservatively would have netted at least 5 & another 10 on the 2nd lot
- this pin looked very tempting; w/ the sentiment, but against the bullish momentum; playing conservatively netted 5 on 1/2 ... best to have stood aside from trading it at all possibly, but these little ones can sometimes signal a good drop & worth a small risk
- DBHLC; still in the same situation & prolly got into trouble here; 13 pip loss; however, staying out of this one was probably the better course of action ... as w/ 1, 2, & 3 ... would have given back most of the profits from those trades ... interesting how trading w/o all the signals in place could lead to b/e results
- bearish pin; played very tightly would have netted at least 5 pips, but again, standing aside is obvious as the even the momentum on the bullish move had still not shifted
- bullish outside bar; this is the 1st good trade in all of this mess; w/ the sentiment & momentum; slight decline in the momentum is shown, but not enuf to make this one a pass ... w/ all 3 signals aligned, would be smart to let price run up 10 pips b/f taking 1/2 off & moving SL to either b/e or 5 pips ... so far, this was really the only decent trade in the bunch
- bearish outside bar against sentiment & bullish momentum holding; did bounce off s/r so definitely tempting; room to run to the hourly MA; but would have barely squeezed the 5 pips out of this one
- DBLHC w/ sentiment & bulls still on top; however, it didn't trigger initially & entry was running straight into resistance level; might have played the break of the 6-bar resistance & might have been lured into the sharp break that occured; more proof that it prolly is best to take 5 pips & move SL to b/e since there is always another set-up around the corner
- DBHLC/bearish outside bar; it too is off that same level of s/r, it is against the sentiment & bears have lost steam, but price closed below the hourly & 4hr MA's here so might be worth a shot to see how it played out; also, serious multiple test of support (6 lows); did put up a fight for 25 minutes, but during this time, the MA's crossed & it never went to far out of bounds
tough market here, but w/ some keen observation was manageable if didn't get careless, greedy, or frustrated. it does go to show that trades taken when all signals are not aligned have more likelihood of failure or near failure creating nail-biting conditions.
calling it a night. maybe tomorrow if i have time, i'll find a trading session that would have been easier to navigate than this one.
