One man's death trade is another's retracement...at 1 cent per $1,000 using the 1.5 X 100/40, my demo acct has been holding its own against all of the recent volatility... I am actually hoping to blow up this account.. I have left it open for the past 2 weeks and it refuses to die... in fact after a 50% swing down, it's back to a 20% gain over the past 2 week period...I have not closed it down once since the craziness began...just more data to think about....

Prior to just a few hours ago my largest unrealized drawdown was about $30, however about an hour ago my equity (not balance) was down $130 at $3009.

As far as trading this system (100/125), I just turned it on at 11pm PST Sunday night and haven't touched it since. There have been several times where a pair has reached the R3/S3 area where I probably would have closed it down in a live account but I let it ride. Basically my only exit is the 800 pip stop loss (none so far). However, I should add that my account right now, is only down $62 - a gain of $70 in under an hour (trading pennies!). So there is some merit to holding positions.

My account so far:

Starting Balance $3000
Current Balance $3135
Current Equity $3070
Margin 32.00

So far the pivots have proven very accurate on predicting reversals.

As far as the definition of the death trade, I think I would say "...within the boundries of your chosen range" rather than "time or resources" since both of NB's systems are designed to handle specific ranges based on his study of many currency pairs over a seven year period.

This is a true statement and why I did not define the time frame. The better your account is funded, and the lower your lot size, the LARGER your time frame. With a smaller account (or larger lot size) you are definatly looking at a shorter time frame. However, the logic is still the same (I believe anyway).

So my idea would be to have the EA self monitor your lot size, account size, some other factors, and then look at both the volitility and the range of each market currently, and historically (using a pre defined number) and self-adjust to the market in real time. This might mean closing trades, this might mean changing lot sizes (lower).

Thanks, I have my retracements from last night I will have a very good week. I cant wait until I get home to check. I will close for the weekend and post my results. This really looks promising

That is very close to my definition. My definition is a trade that goes beyond the boundaries of the EA and has very little chance of taking profit before running out of margin.

Cool, glad we all pretty much all agree on exactly what a death trade is. Now the tricky part, trying to prevent it in the first place and stop it after it's started, with as few 'false positives' as possible.

Nanningbob and Tdion basically nailed it on preventing the death trade in the first place (that is, not trading when there is high volatility or a much greater than normal range in the market). I'm going to focus the next few days on developing a 75% accurate signal to flag a death trade once it has started and then work on having the EA adjust it'self once it gets the flag. Of course, my wife has the next few days off as well, and she likes it when I pay attention to her and not the computer, so we shall see what happens.

Bob, just thought of integrating a self adjusting system that will change from 100/40 to 100/125, 60/40, etc.. based on market fluxuations. In your experience (which is a LOT with this system), when are the best times to use each of these and for what reasons?

It really has nothing to do with times but market ranges. A market can range at any time. Yesterday it was the afternoon session when prices took off while the rest of the day was quiet. Mondays are almost always the slowest days of the week however the last three weeks they have had the wildest swings in history. You are trying to predict the future and then run the best EA. If you figure that one out, we are all instant millionaires.

What a great day. After yesterdays late run they retraced beautifully and I have had my best day with the 100/125. It is 2 in the morning EST and I still have the best part of the day ahead of me.

From what I gather, you prefer the 100/125 for a widely ranging market, 100/40 for a 'normal' market and the 60/40 for a 'not-so-wide-ranging' market, is this accurate?

Also, making rather nice gains tonight as well! I wish I had not pulled out a few days ago, that retrace would have made me a ton.

Yes with this market you need the range. The 60/45 actually has more range than the 100/40 but when it gets in trouble its a hit, but when it is winning it makes more money.

Ive gone to the original EA in MetaEditor but for some reason I'm not able to change any of the settings !!! is there a lock on it. Ive limited experience, but I have never struck this before can someone help

There are two files for every EA one you can open and change one you cannot, do the other file. Its the one that looks like a yellow yield sign. That is the one you can change.

Sorry Frost, there is no stopping the death trade. No matter what you do the market will always have a time in which it moves in a way that will take the Price out of range without a retrace. I have seen some currencies move very slow and take five days to go out of range. Not once did they retrace the 100 points to take profit but they will move 70 points a day right out of the EAs range. Its kind of like death by dripping water. The USD/CAD loves doing that one. It doesnt have to happen in one day or hours it can do it by small increments. Then there was the Eur/Aud shocker of last week over 1400 points without a retrace. Nope, you are just going to have to deal with it. Take your lumps and go on. It would be nice if we could never lose but that is a pipe dream. The bigger the range to stop one day death trades the better chance of a slow one sneaking up on you over a period of days. The ones that have killed me go into a session at levels 3-5 and then suddenly a news story sends them to the edge. DO I or Dont I? Will the USA afternoon session bail me out HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?

Hey Bob, thanks for your reply, strange thing is thats the one I'm trying to change. In fact I opened another EA just to check and was able to change it.

Hmmmmm so nothing you have done. I'll try some more at this end

I wanted to share my results for my demos and live accounts. I have been running.

100/40 since Aug $500 , 19 pairs, my history from aug was removed by IBFX. So it starts from sept. I manually closed some death trades in the begining, but most of the time I just let it run.
100/125 $1000 9 pairs. Started This week Monday night est. just letting it run. Yesterday evening was the most drawdown I've seen so far. I think it was around $300. I also have this on my live account. I was at work when Jpy pairs were trending and I got some drawdown so I couldn't do anything about it, I would of probably closed the trades for a loss but I'm glad I didn't. we got a retrace last night and took my profits.
I hope this helps some of you.

bob, I will keep dreaming! In my eyes, when you close a death trade, you are taking a loss. Heck, you could just use the 800 pip stop loss and that would actually do about the same thing, I'm just trying to find a way to stop it before the 800 pip SL. You are of course correct in that there will ALWAYS be things that we can not anticipate, control, calculate, figure, or plan for.

The market is a wild bull and we are just trying to ride it as long as we can before getting thrown off. I'm just trying to bring some pain killer

wow! you've doubled your money!

I hope to soon have a joint challenge to see who can turn 1,000 into 100,000 the fastest. Hopefully, we all hit the goal at the same time and help each other out along the way.

anyway which EA are you using for the live account? 100/40 or 100/125?

I been running 100/125 on demo this whole week.
I have left it running from monday jap open to tue mid of euro and close it.
Did not run it on wed.
And again from thu jap open and will leave it till fri mid of euro.

It has increase for about 1k since the beginning of the week
