File Management

Here is my current rundown of metatrader files:

1. 600 EAs
2. 800 Indicators
3. 200 Scripts
4. 70 Metatrader platforms.

For people who do considerable mass testing and trading as I do, how do you synchronize files across metatrader platforms? Is there some sort of automated synchronization/backup software which has a "master" folder that automatically updates the "slave" folders whenever the master is updated?

It is one thing to organize your files in a hierarchy.... it is another to synchronize them.

Could you tell us exactly what you are trying to accomplish?

I'm trying to synchronize the files.

My current setup has one metaeditor terminal which saves to a master folder.

All the other metatrader terminals' slave folders are updated at 3AM.

What I want to do is to get the slave folders to update whenever the master folder is updated.

Okay, let me see if I understand you correctly....

there are several data files that your EAs are writing to.... and you'd like them to be able to update each other at some point throughout the day.

Is that correct?

No.

Here's what currently happens.

 

1. I write/edit an EA.
2. I update the master folder (one folder has all EAs)
3. The computer--at 3AM--takes any updated files, and updates all the slave folders inside the various metatrader terminals.

What I want to happen:

1. I write/edit an EA.
2. The master folder is automatically updated
3. The slave folders are automatically updated

Well there is a free version control program called CRC that is no charge for a single user. I don't think that is the exact solution for you, though.

You might consider writing a java program that polls the files in your folder for "last modified" attribute changes, and make copies accordingly. It might be impossible to find a COTS product that meets your exact needs.

I just set a task for each instance of metatrader I'm running and I'm all set.
