An EA here and an EA there...

My personal trading style is very discretianary, so to build an EA for it is not a travial task nor can I explain how I trade in here. Either way, I saw this post in the journal forum "Dawg Days Of August" where our fellow member put forth a very interesting challange, to see who can make the most %gains in the month of August.
Unfortunately, I do not have time to manual trade for the competition but I decided to take up the challange and try to convert a part of my trading methodology into an EA and compete. So I put togather what I have and ran it live for the first week of Aug (you can view the login details for the demo account by following the link in my signature). In the first week, the EA is up 15% and it did not risk more then 2% at any given time.
Initially I thought, competition rules were not to risk more then 2% per trade and not to open more then one trade at any given time. But it was made clear that if we have a open order and if we protect its profit/move stops, we can open more positions but keeping the total risk no more then 2% on all the open positions. So I modified my EA over the weekend to open multiple positions and the results seem very promising.

Now here is the result over the same time period (last week), same risk (no more then 2% at risk at any given time) for the version 2 of the EA.

I pulled down the M1 Data from Alpari databank and ran the EA since 2004.07.01 and here are the results for the version 1 and version 2 of the EA.

is this what old mcdonald was doing when he wasn't farming? sitting at the computer loading EAs?

Thats an interesting question. I'm not sure if I'll post the EA or not. I was going to post the V1 of the EA after reading your post but I stoped and will ponder over if I want to take this route or not. Posting an EA and then supporting it isn't a travial task. I've tried it in the past (I built the Nicotina EA for the ff members) and dealing with people's requests, it ain't easy .

I've posted my demo account login details so anyone can monitor its performance in my first post. But if I feel like sharing the EA, I'll start of by sharing it with some people that I recognize in the forum, and easy into making it available to everyone. Again, I've not thought it through....

Even now, I'm making modifications to the EA to trade Micro Lots etc. I've tried putting in a few filters, which aren't helping much. The EA is still under construction and development.

If your deposit on your backtest is $10,000 and you have drawdown over $10,000, doesnt that mean you could have blown out your account? I assume the lot size is fixed.

The lot size is variable, it's risking 2% if the account at any given time. so if the bot makes profits and the balance is 50K, and it has a string of losses, and the losses accumulate to 30K, your balance drops down to 20k, and no the account doesn't go belly side up. If we have the string of losses from the get go, the bot accounts for it and reduces the lot sizes to keep the account from blowing up.

I hope this makes it a little more clear.

I've tried this with an account size as low as 1K, and it's managed to survive and make some $$.

I've tried all sorts of back tests with the alpari data, and I've been using a variance of this method live profitably for over a year now. Its just been till recent that I decided to try n make an EA out of it. I wasn't aware the EA would turn out to be this good.

I'm still trying to make it better, but its very promosing as is.

Made a few more modifications to the V2 version of the bot, the modifications are significant enough to call it a version 3. The core logic is still the same from V1. Just adding some smart ideas into the bot on where it take profit and where to call it quits on a trade etc.

Simple answer, the EA is not ready to be public nor am I trading it on a live account yet.
Reason for posts inthe forum was/is to hopefully stay motivated while working on this. If my posts are causing some offense. I have no issue in stop posting.

Ok, this is getting too hectic for me. I need a few independent volunteer testers for this EA.

Ideally you should have some experiance with EA back/forward testing and know how to rely on what sort of back tests.
Please post here if you can help me with this.
