DislikedBah, this demo account is more annoyance then anything resembling fun.
Let’s see; so far I have had 2 trade entries and 1 take profit fail to execute on the demo that did so on Currenex. I also had 1 stop loss execute on the demo that slipped by on Currenex. That’s 4 wins on live that the demo counts as losses.
I can’t believe how shitty trading on retail is. How on earth does anyone make money with it?Ignored
DislikedBe happy that it wasn't the other way arround. I guess the key is to know what to expect from the brokers and outsmart them, a little.Ignored

DislikedO&A is a bit different in their pricing and interface than what you're probably used to. They shade as it suits them, and this shows up in the game account which could account for some of your apparent bad luck in missing fills by a pip or two, and same goes with stops being triggered. This is particularly true if you're using a pinpoint system, or trading off another feed (other than O&A's feed). It's all part of the game with them but overall if you adapt and learn to play the game by their rules it's a fair deal. But agree in principle that trading the demo while you are trading live is more trouble than it is worth, unless you can use it to explore the ins and outs of a strategy that you're not quite ready to implement live yet. I have found quite a bit of value in joining contests in the past with that purpose in mind. The added element of the competition tends to be sufficient to overcome the apathy of it being play money.Ignored
Dislikedhey here is an idea why not charge a small fee say $5 that only active members can join, winner take all. just think if all active members participated
that would be around $60,000 . that would could give someone a good start on a live account. and for the full timers be a nice bonus for a months work.Ignored
DislikedI'm not going to knock them for their product. It is great for the clientele that they service, offering many features and advantages that aren't available anywhere else. My problem is that the rules of my system don't fit the limitations trading on their platform imposes.
In most instances I am getting hit on the bid(offer) with Currenex while I have to wait for the 2-3X larger spread to move through the limit on Oanda. Combine that with 1 pip price shading on either side of the move and I need an extra 4-5 pips of movement out of every winning trade. That’s 20-25% more price movement then the system normally requires. The shading would help with the stops, but the increased spreads negate any advantage I gain there from.
I'm sure I could build a system to account for the differences, but that time would be much better spent in the lab working on real money trading systems. So the short of it is, without a competitive system my continued participation in the contest would be a waste of time and effort.
I wish you all the best of luck in the remainder of the contest and look forward to seeing who the winner turns out to be.
NOTE:/ I threw on some John Holmes USD trades just to see where they end up.Ignored
DislikedI'm dropping out of the contest. I'm neglecting my real account and I can't trade two accounts at the same time because I need to be quick on the draw. Good luck to those still in the contest.Ignored
