I don't label myself. I just tell people I buy and sell foreign currency.

If people ask what I do for a living, I say something simple like..." I buy and sell currency"....(and yes, Ive often got the response "oh..ok...where do you see the stock market going?")

The hard part is usually when it comes to filling in official forms etc where you have to use one of their pre-defined codes for your occupation...."Forex Trader" isnt usually an option(yet)! - its always things like "stock broker/trader", investment manager/advisor, money broker,share investor etc.....

I never tested it, but the best I could come up with was personal investor, or self directed investor? But I haven't really done the 4x full time exclusively. I wouldn't know where to begin. Maybe one day when I see someone who will pay attention and listen instead of blank out, otherwise I haven't really explained it yet.

when someone asked me what's up lately, i told them i'm doing forex trading. They said : oh, in stock market
Me : no, not stock mkt, it is foreign currency trading
They : u mean foreign company stock
Me : no, it is foreign monies like USD, AUD, GBP
They : wow......you work in the bank
Me: No, i work for myself
They : that's a big big biz u got, need a lot of capital...

oh boy, oh boy.......

Can't blame them, I was such before !!!

I tell people I'm a currency speculator. Suprisingly some people actually know what I'm talking about. Sadly most just change the subject.

Come on, the days that a person would be just a "carpenter", a "shoe maker" or "a teacher" are gone. I am a "cognitive social psychologist". I've given up making people understand what I do long ago...

Well, on a second thought... When I say "currency speculator", people seem to have some idea. It is probably one of those oldest professions...
