Email Alerts on MetaTrader?

does anyone have or know how to make an email alert system that can email or text message me on my phone when I am not near the computer? I tried looking into making one but when it comes to creating them im pretty useless. anyone got any suggestions?

Do I need to subscribe to a special email service?
Im trying to use the stmp.gmail.com server but seem that it doesnt work

Gmail does not work. I use my ISP's email account. You could also check out a service like bluebottle.com , I know their free service will work with MT4.

I tried and tested with bluebottle.com but seem that doesnt work either. The smtp server is: mail.bluebottle.com. And I have Outlook Express running with my bluebottle account.

Did you enter the smtp address with the port number on it?
If they use the standard port, you'd need to enter mail.bluebottle.com:25

I recommended bluebottle as a smtp server. Are you trying to send and receive on the same server to the same mail address? I don't know if you can do that with bluebottle. I just tested it and bluebottle still works fine as a smtp server. Since you apparently don't have an ISP email, send the email to gmail if you want to pop it with OE. I've tested that for someone and know that works. You can also send to a cell phone depending on the carrier and the country you live in. I've only tested my ATT Cingular cell.
Test it one step at a time. First get MT to send to gmail's web mail then set up the pop info in OE.

Do I miss something else?

Maybe the login shouldn't include "@bluebottle.com"? I don't use them so I'm really just shooting in the dark but everything looks right.

I'm not sure why it did not work for you to start with. I've done a little more testing this morning since I use them on my laptop when I'm not on my ISP. I need to correct what I said yesterday about not being able to send to yourself and pop it back with OE. I found out why I had to use gmail. My problem was how strict I set up the permissions and allowed senders and pending permission area of bluebottle. You can look at it on the web site go to setup. If your sending to bluebottle go to the web site and check the pending box as well as the inbox. Thats where my test messages were until I adjusted the settings.

After a few adjustments I just sent a test message to myself and looked at it in Outlook Express with the settings below. So unless you have a firewall problem or some other issue on your end this should work.

Thanks nvwine for posting your image of the configuration. I am now able to successfully connect to bluebottle.

I am in the process of moving and do not currently have an ISP. I use the wireless internet in the motel in which I am staying. I tried to use bluebottle last week without success. The video under the sticky is well done and the configuration displayed would have worked for me the first time with no problems a month ago when Verizon was my ISP. I was thrown by using the port number on the SMTP server address. Your image makes it explicit that this is not necessary in all cases. I removed it and successfully connected.

Your welcome. I've tried things that did not work until I added a port number. It's mainly trial and error for me.

I was using NF demo MT4 and seems that their email alerts doesnt work. Recently I tried with Alpari and it works.

A note to anyone who followed my advice over the years and got a free bluebottle account to send MT4 email:

Bluebottle no longer offers free email that you can use as a SMTP server.

If your MT4 platform quit sending alert emails, it is not a settings problem. My service was shut off June 26th, 2008. I did not read their warning email so I spent a bunch of time trouble shooting my alert problem yesterday.

They have the following message posted on their web site.

Our decision was not an easy one but was necessary to reduce the significant resources required to manage the free service.

No real update other than I now use a different free email service when I am not at home. Remember if you do not use your ISP's SMTP server you must use a web email service with a SMTP server. The free version of most common web based email services will not work.
