Backtesting

Can anyone tell me how to properly backtest a currecny. As in is there a program that you can use to backtest a system? Or do you have to test a system manually?

It's not an easy thing to do. You'll need to learn a bit of computer programming. MetaTrader is free but if you've got money to throw around TradeStation is a lot better and easier.

If your system is fully mechanical then you can backtest it on a platform like MetaTrader. It gives you the best backtest results. Click the following link. It shows you the backtest results of a strategy.

However, if your system is not that mechanical and its more of subjective nature then it's proabably better to backtest it manually. You need to go back in time and then step forward one bar at a time and see how you would have decided at the time. This approach is not as good as automated backtesting but it can give you a rough idea whether your system works or not.
