Yes, I eyeball, because I didn't found yet an indicator that shows the correct EMA angle, if EMA is going up or down, 5 degrees I enter a position

An good Idea, for those with ideas of trading the Ema angle in 5 Min charts, its the Damiani volatmeter, I don't find it useful in the 30 M charts, because it makes me enter late, but in the 5 minutes is a different story, it is very good to stay out of the choppy market.

If the price crosses the EMA the other way, the EMA is sloping the other way, but the TP was not hit, did you close the position and reverse it?

takes me back to the bunny days/20ema/5ema cross

but it does help me see the "curve" of the 21ema

at the moment my charts says long usdchf, long usdjpy, short eurusd

though there is no real ema angle, just approximation, but well...

Just giving an adrenaline shot to this Thread, to see if it comes from the dead.

Did some tests, and in the last 5 years, with 15 min charts instead of 30, it made 9271 pips, about 1854 per year, and 154 pips per month.

But results could be doubled or tripled, if signals could be filtered more efficiently from the range market, since this is Trending Strategy.

Clues to filter the range?

Only open trades from 8.00 GMT till 18.00 GMT

Moving Average 20 (not exponential)

Price above it, BUY
Price below it, Sell

Sl -56

TP - 172

Risk/Reward - 1:3.07

IF you are lucky to have a TP on the first trade or second trade, your trading day is OVER,

IF not, and you have 2 SL, your days is equaly over, more trades only the next day



Thats all I cant tell, because thats all I know about this system.

Please test it, and if you find any settings that work better than mine, post them here.

I'm also thinking of a Trailing of X points from the Moving average, to limit the losses.

That X value, has to be found yet

I also only enter, if the MA is visibly (by the eye) turning up or down, to avoid bad signals.

Also for Sell, a Bearish Candle (close of candle higher than open)
For Buy a Bullish Candle (close of candle lower than open)

I am using EMAs in time frame like 5M and 15M but the results
is average. Since you have started this EMAs in Mar 2008,
can you help to share information on this system?

It was never used for real, did some real trades at the time, but started working on another systems, and this was here archieved on the FF Forum, so that when I had the Time, to work on it again.

I've been using 21 ema on 1 hr for some time http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=180398 I'll have a look at 30 min.

There you are, you could also add pivots, MACD, RSI. etc, your favorite, whatever floats your boat

I added 21 channel, Vantages 6ema, and from the GEagle thread, two MTF trix meter in the indy window.

The template was made as a 15m, simply change your MTF trix meter to say 30m, 4h for a 30m chart.

The beauty of 21EMA is that price always test it atleast once a day (60Minutes), alteast once a week (4 Hours), atleast once a month (Daily), atleast once a year (W1). Like any other Moving Averages, it gives a very clear pivot points where you can trade off.

I don't exactly an indicator-oriented trader as I focus mainly on chart patterns, price action aided by fundamental analysis but 21EMA provide you that "spice" in your chart and act as a double confirmation of the market's current senitment for eg Intraday sentiment would be bullish bias if price is above 21EMA.

Interesting enough, when price tested 84EMA (21EMA in H4), very often price action starts to consolidate around that paricular moving average, forming a tight range (rectangle/horizontal channel).. making it a leading indicator for future volatility breakout.

In terms of the angulation of the 21EMA, it is quite subjective to determine a "good angulation" but if we consider this :-

If we talk about price action, price can only stop its current wave after it weakens (stopped out by a significant resistance, overbought etc).. after a clear say, bullish wave, you absolutely KNOW that price need to retrace, hence going bearish. The key of a good 21EMA breakout determiner is knowing what the price was doing prior to the breakout.. was it choppy? was it after a strong move? Knowing little bit price action would give this simple strategy that extra 10% efficiency. 21EMA based on history data, if the 21EMA is flat, that means price hasn't got a clear trend yet hence trading it's impulsive breakout should be only confirmed after the completion of it's corrective wave (retracement, retest of 21EMA).. (after the price retraces)
