There are times when this thing moves 150 pips in a milisecond. That way it could in theory move from say...199 to about........err 197.5 .....all that without touching 198 at all .Then it goes to 198 and then moves down more.... So I guess it is possible

Here's my updated 4h chart on our favorite pair. So....... I reallize that the golden cross on the 1h chart failed hard with news yesterday but now that we have a recross up of the golden, I must only long at this time unless the 50 and 200emas are broken down again. We have been making higher highs and higher lows this week. And we are riding the 5ema the past 3 days on the daily chart. Back above this trendline at 200.40 area (50% of the 208.00 down move) then a test of the upper trendline at 201.60, then onward to 4h 200ema. Only a failure of the golden cross on the 1hr will make me think otherwise.

What TF are you referring to? No-one taking longs? Why is price channeling upward then ?

Yes, we are bearish in the long-term. But would you load up with short positions based on 4h/daily chart yet ? Might be risky. Why? Take a look at 4h chart. It will tell you. It's important to have an open mind for a second scenario.

So, we have ascending triangle on 4h chart where price have been channeling inside since 18.03. I'm looking for a break-out to the downside as you can see on the chart, but since I don't know what's next, I have prepared myself for both events;

very nice but....

1) what is the trend on higher time frame charts? Down
2) what is happening with equity markets.. mainly DJIA and Nikkei? Down
3) what is happening to the $? Down
4) what is the outlook for the uk and sterling? Poor and Down
5) where do people invest for safe haven? Gold and Low yielding currencies (not $ anymore)

I hear what you are saying, but you have to take into account the fundementals too. This week has also been affected by month end flows, and year end flows in Japan, plus the £ has had a boost from positive gbp/cad flows from the merger of Reuteurs/Thomson. By all means, go long.

This is how i make my living, and im sticking to selling rallies!!

Right on Shin, I trade to live too. I listen to the fundamentals, and trade what I see. I am ready to do whatever the market tells me. Today, in fact, I made all my pips shorting this pair. If hourly golden fails again, Im with you on shorts.

I understand what you are saying, but if we know the long/medium term trend is down, why not just sell rallies? To me it goes against everything I have being taught.. which is following the trend. You could say going long is following the trend, but to me it is trading a correction.

My opinion of course!!!

Correct attitude by always sticking with the main-trend on larger TF's. But remember someone base their trades from lower TF too aiming for 30-150 pips.

Also notice that GJ can move another 1000 pips up without "changing" to bullish. So what would you do if price went 1000 pips upward ? Still opening short positions ?

We know the outlook dosen't seem good for any upside on this pair, but we can't be 100% sure, can we ?

Hope you see the point here, as I'm not trying to tell you "You are wrong!"
Just be prepared for anything.

I would still be bearish in the long-term even if price went up to 214;

GBP/JPY fell from 213.46 (27 Feb high) to complete a multi-week bear triangle. 203.45 was seen on 03 Mar and a 203.45-207.96 range preceded a sharp drop to 192.52 (17 Mar low). A surge higher reached 201.76 (19 Mar high) before the current consolidation hinting at a continuation of the down trend. A break of 197.60 targets 192.52, however above 201.76 risks a retrace to 203.05.

Strategy look to buy...

sure, i understand exactly what you are saying. If price broke above 201.55, and broke a lot, i would probably be into buying a dip for a test of 205 area. But where we are now is a dangerous place to start going long.... but then again i dont trade break-outs. So for me at the moment, its selling rallies or standing aside.

Could be some more interesting flow tonight... so technicals and fundementals can go flying out of the window!!!
