Hi Stew,

OK, I've made more trades on the managed account than on my own account. That one takes precidence for obvious reasons. My own account I've continued to risk 2% of account balance.

Also, my investor wanted to trade 50,000 per position initially so risk was just under 5%. After a successful start we have agreed to increase position size to 75,000 which does increase the risk again. This is something that he's happy with so that's what we're doing. On the managed account we haven't had a s/l hit but have netted off positions twice so far (once at end of Feb & once tonight) to basically clear the decks and start again. On my own account I haven't done this at all - just let tp & sl get hit. Horses for courses really in the grand scheme of things.

Attached is a notepad file of March trades up to last night - these don't include drawdowns but the balance quoted above does as all positions are now closed.

@ $1 p pip that would be +$1550 and -$1000 or net +$550.
To make $7k you would need to trade @ about $15 per pip which is approx 15% risk per trade.
Don't want to question your results but I'm trying to trade your system and I'm struggling to get anything like these returns.
Have you changed the rules? - just curious.

Just wanted to share my success demoing this strategy. Since beginning on Feb 25th and then spending most of last week on a beach, I've now had 45 winning trades, no losses and no stress. Balance now stands at $5323, up 6.6% however, current floating loss is $600 due to taking maximum amount of longs stupidly around the top of the range. I've also kept the lot sizes constant and perhaps will increase them as the balance reaches specific levels.

When you said 6.6% is that equity or balance? I personally like to figure profit on equity, because that is the Net Asset value. Sounds like you are doing well with it. Congats. Which currencies are to trading with the concept?
Hi Scott, the 6.6% is on an opening balance of $5000. Balance now stands at $5339. Equity currently at $4681. Only trading GBP/JPY. Risking 3% opening account balance on each trade which gives a lot size of 0.16. And it's a mini account

I've been an interested reader of your journal in ForexFactory in the past couple weeks. It's amazing how many people you have helped.

I have a request and I'm pretty sure that others have asked of this before either at this forum or in your life in general.

I used to trade US equities and emini's for full time years back, but since then have taken another route. Also when I used to trade, markets used to have diff't tendencies, and I was a lot more confident in trading. I now have a "real" job that keeps me busy. I was wondering for people like me, have you ever considered managing money? I believe this venture would be a win win situation, for you would enhance other people's lives and in return you would incur extra income through performance fees.

-If you do manage for others- what type of return are you getting net net per month for your clients?
-what are the deepest drawdowns you've experienced so far peak to bottom?


Currently I have 2 managed accounts, one good, one not so good. I would love to hear your feedback on my proposal. Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you soon.

P.S.--btw, what area of the world do you reside?

Reading between the lines I think your trading is a lot more discretionary than I at first realised.

Welcome to FF!

As you may have read here I have been trading an investor's account (as well as my own) for a couple of months now & things are going very well.

It was as a result of this journal that he contacted me in the latter part of 2007 and we have tested rigourously since then. At the moment we are just taking it steady with a view to increasing trade size and account balance over time.

I have had other offers but I think it's very important to build up trust on both sides before 'jumping in with both feet' so to speak. I'm still working full-time like yourself but hopefully not for too much longer.

I'll send you a PM with my email address and if you'd like to talk further we can have a chat. I can't promise anything right now but let's see....

i thinks i started my demo in a bad moment.

i am testing it with GY but mechanical using MAs.I don't know if it is a good idea but let see what happens.

i have now closed 20 orders and one of them is a loss. The entry as i said was a MA crossover on 13/03 17:50 GMT. I think that if i was trading manualy would took this trade too because it was breakout. On 5 min it broke the top that was tested many times and on 1H it broke a up TL by a few pips. I think that you never whould take this trade as daily is in a strong downtrend.

it was only 1 bad trade and took all my profits (DEMO!).

but with today's trades i am almost on breakeven (but with a sell at 193.80 and a buy at 196.67 openned).

first loss in the first day... i will discover if the problem is luck or (no)discretion.

you took any loss theses days in your personal account?

sooner i will try it in the "correct" way trading manually.

While i like my little agragate trend, it is too short term for this. I wrote a Dashboard indicator using Lucidlamp's original ma Dashboard as a guide, but then changed the logic, so it follows the idea of Ed Ponsi and others that a 10day ema must be above a 20 dayema, which must be above a 50 day ema, which must be above a 200 day ema, for longs only. Opposite for shorts only.

It is nothing special and of course MAs lag and all that. No panacea, just a quick way to keep my entrys on the correct side of a major trend.
Hi, steviet, if you don't mind, may I ask you is your equity similar to your balance? For me I got a quite big floating loss.

OK just a quick update...

My own little account continues to compound nicely - so far in March 32 trades, 31 winners and 1 loser. That makes a total of 393 winning trades and 6 losing trades.

On the managed account, start balance was $103529 mid January and by the end of February had risen by $3845 to $107374.

So far, March has been exceptional and have added a further $7538 and the balance currently stands at $114912 All positions are closed so I'm giving myself a day off

I still can't quite believe this is happening - all I'm doing is replicating what I've done for some time on my own account and just forget about the actual money I'm trading.

I'll post an update on my live account at the end of the month but yes, March has not been a great month. With the huge drop in the past week, stops have been hit and although I've picked up plenty on shorts, not enough.

However, overall I've still been profitable and this last week is not typical thank goodness.

On the managed account, I've taken a more cautious approach and it's been a great month so far. Taken the balance from just over $107,400 on 1st March to just over $118,600 as I write. On this account I have no open positions.

The way I've dealt with this is a better way to go, especially in the current volatile climate. At the end of February we closed all positions open at that time so March began with a clean slate. I also closed off all positions last Wednesday and didn't trade on Thursday. Since then I've just dipped in and out of the market taking short after short and banking my 50 pips. Another 250 today selling into rallies.

Hi, steviet, I am using a similar strategy as yours before I found your thread. Do you still set your T/P to be 50 pips? I used to take my profit @ 33 pip.

Hi dogberry,

Yes, on the managed account I have no open positions so the equity is the same as the balance.

On my own account, I'm currently carrrying a floating loss and this is the norm in a method like this.

These last few days have probably been the toughest since I began trading this way but it's good to see how it gets through these challenging times.

I am uk based and in fulltime employment, this would help me trade while working

I Have had a read through your thread you have changed you strategy please can you advise what it is ie stoploss now 1000pips before it was 10 pips ? what time frame you look at for entries
