Plain and simple, fundamentals ultimately rule. The world financial markets are in a real mess, and rapidly getting worse. I would be very surprised to see any kind of sustained bullish movement for GJ.

I have been saying for 9 months that we are heading for a depression, and so far, I have seen nothing to even make me think twice about my conclusion.

You have to understand the correlation between GBPJPY and the indices. Look at s&P and dj -30 . These plummeted today and closed at low of day. Liekly there will be more carnage tomorrow. At this point even 1% rate cut by feds is just gum on the dam.

GBPJPY is a carry trade. As markets drop risk aversion is unwound , that is what they mean by unwinding of the carry trades on the news wires and also part of the reason the AUDUSD dropped alot today as this is now a stronger carry trade then GBPJPY as the interest rate differential is higher.

As per my earlier posting there was not much chance of this going up , I did mentioned wait for clear break of 15 min 20 sma before going long. It only poked its nose thru that and quickly reversed on the next candle. I like to add 20 pips to the breakout bar on a 15 min chart for breakout confirmation.

One sure way to lose money in forex ( been there done that on live account)
is to rush into a trade to early.

i stress this time and time again to newer traders that you have to wait for some kind of confirmation that the trend is going to change , specially if you are going to walk away from the trade and go do something else.

Also look at the 4 hour chart. Before this candle formed we had the two biggest down candles we have had in days, since the 1000 pip drop. That should have been a sign to short the rallies for a swing trade position .

I hope this helps.

Watch this space for next 1000 pips. Today was the start of that run ... 350 pips and counting, means we still have lots to go.

I like to wait for the 60 min chart to confirm a trend reversal after a big drop or rally.

This is just the continuation of the down trend as indicated by the breaking of the bear flag on the 4 hour that I have been going on about for days,

The trend is your freind if you know how to read it.

On bear flags you should only be shorting the rallies to ensure high sucess rate in your trades.

The bottom could drop out of them anytime.

Once that flag was broken this is a continuation pattern to the down side. Could this be the start of the next leg down to 199. ???

Also for the first time in a while GBPUSD up trend is starting to show a kink in the armour and will likely retest 2.000 area overnight.

When gbpusd moves down 100 pips , gbpjpy typically moves 200.

Just an observation.

Euro market positive tonight ??? i doubt it .... not with the dj and s&p closing at low of day.

Here is a chart of the 15 min , at least if you feel the need to go long wait till the break above the 20 sma ( brown line) ... what is the rush to lose pips ?? Under the 10 , 20 and 50 sma on the 15 min going long for a swing trade is increasing the risk on the trade by 200% I think.

to survive in this game is to manage risk the best .

To rush into a long when you have a 300 pip drop and the indices closed at low of day with not even a bounce is akin to taking a match to your money and setting light to it.

if you do not understand the relationship between markets , how to wait for trend reversal signals etc etc then trade something less volatile than the gbpjpy on a longer time frame than 2 hours. They do not call it the beast for nothing.

I put a case together in my gbpjpy scalpers thread how , by adding pips to the highs or lows of trade trigger candles (moving average crosses , break outs of whole numbers , adx cross , and any other the 400 or so indicators out there) you can make very sucessful trades .

$1000 to $110,000 to be exact in 9 trades on the daily EURUSD , 11 trade triggers , 9 fills , max 100 pips draw down.

Forgot to add , that was on the daily charts since November . Nice slow trades . 25 % of profit reinvested.

Even if on trade 4 you got stopped out you would still have lots of profit in the bank.

The way to grow your account in this gane is by compounding and the way to do that is by managing risk.

Everyone talks about how many pips they get but no one talks about risk management.

I like to take partial profits as the trade works to pay for stop , then let my top lots run.

Sure I do not make as much money as someone who lets all the lots run to their full potential , but remember who won the race ... it was not the hare.

I LOVE TRADING ... have a great passion for it and love to share my knowledge with others. i started a trading room on the weekend and had loads of fun with a bunch of guys and girls in my gbpjpy scalper thread.

we were trading live this morning and just as the action started I was in the shower ....

I was getting tired of the chop early morning and after having my futures account screw up so iI could not trade gold this morning was not in the right mind set.

This afternoon made up for it ... who says you cannot make 150 pips on a 2 min charts in under an 2 hours

If we get hyper inflation ( tied in with depression and high oil prices ) we will see gbpjpy back to 300 plus in a year or 2.

Interest rates will be double digits once more as inflation gets out of control in US and Europe.

Carry trade will rule once more .

But in the mean time you would have over 2000 pip draw down on your account and become bankrupt.

man you are so good in analysis i will love to have your big view of the whole picture, from long time ago and you talk about deppresion . is there any other good scenario or only sure about the global collapse .
The Nikkei is now down about 30% from its highs of last summer. My guess is that we are approaching a near-term bottom around 12,000. That in conjunction with UJ pushing up against 100 may halt the yen strengthening for a while.

That doesn't mean I expect GJ to stop it's movement down. I have been targeting GU around 1.75, mostly caused by the weakening of the pound. The extreme movement of the dollar has propped up the pound for the past few weeks, but that won't continue.

UJ of 100 and GU of 1.75 of course gives me my target of 175 for GJ.
